Al Halfout is a Comedy Drama movie directed by Samir Seif, starring Adel Imam, Ilham Chahine, Saeed Saleh and Salah Kabil and written by Wahid Hamid. The movie was filmed mainly in Egypt and was not nominated. The movie revolves around life in the suburbs of Egypt, discussing mainly the working class foreshadowing the social inequality and corruption reigning over a small village with a vast majority of poor inhabitants, the role of government does not seem to appear throughout the movie, only land lords and rich businessmen are portrayed as criminals doing their activity without being judged or prosecuted, this dysfunctional village falls into the phenomenon of witching and moral degradation where a woman runs a gentlemen’s the main technological standard is the train that connect the village to the rest of Egypt. The movie follows the life of a blue collar worker Adel Imam is starring as Arafa, a poor man with no future or education trying very hard to make some money and get married as his life undergoes a series of misfortunes and obstacles trying to find himself in a ruthless unforgiving community. His best friend Dosoki starring Saeed saleh shares with him a great portion in the miserable life they are living. The movie shows a satirical humor along with undertones targeting the government of Egypt being unfair and unsupportive towards the poor.

Plot

Arafa, starring Adel Imam a single 34 years old man, he is often seen working as a delivery man using his slender tired out body to carry peoples grocery shopping that includes basic everyday life necessities, Arafa is a mentally challenged man with an odd personality. He is a slow talker with funny accent and very disorganized in his life. His preferred place is the local village market or the train station where his best friend Dosoki starring Saeed Saleh works in a coffee shop. Sometimes Dosoki helps Arafa with money or tries to find a new job for him. Traditional and cultural practices have a negative impact on society such as sorcery that led to a moral degeneration where prostitution takes place at a woman’s house. Arafa urge for marriage finally becomes a living dream when he marries a widowed woman Warda starring Ilham Chahine, after a few days, Arafa finds himself jobless when a younger man takes his position in the market. A crime takes place when a local hitman kills a famous businessman, but later Arafa takes the hitman’s name and the money sent to him for a new crime, the man sent by the boss mistaken between the two because he never saw the killer in person. Finally Arafa decides to rebel against the mafia when he lost his best friend Dosoki a fire clash, warda finds out and decided to follow him but the unexpected happens when she herself dies and Arafa kills every gang member and finally redeems himself.
