The South Pacific Cartel (Spanish: Cártel del Pacífico Sur), is a Mexican organized crime group. It is composed of the remnants of the Beltran-Leyva Cartel and is based in the Mexican state of Morelos. The gang has been inactive since mid 2011.[1]
Although they call themselves a 'cartel', the violent gang is a local cell created on April 2010 by Héctor Beltrán Leyva,[2][3][4] leader of the Beltran Leyva Cartel. The gang is known for having employed a 12-year-old gunman and executioner.[2][3][4]
On May 25, 2011, Julio de Jesus Radilla Hernandez, alias "El Negro," a leader of the South Pacific Cartel, was arrested along with Jose Luis Luquin, alias "El Jabon". They are accused in the killing of Juan Francisco Sicilia, the son of poet and activist Javier Sicilia. Since then, the cartel has been inactive.
