Portugal is scheduled to compete at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, United Kingdom, from July 27 to August 12, 2012. The Olympic Committee of Portugal will be represented by a delegation of 77 competitors (45 men and 32 women) in 13 sports. Compared with the previous Games, the Olympic team repeats the number of competitors but will not participate in three sports: archery, fencing and taekwondo.[1]

Notable absences due to injuries include the defending men's triple jump champion Nelson Évora, Olympic medalists Vanessa Fernandes, Francis Obikwelu, and Rui Silva; and long jumper Naide Gomes.[1]

Notes

  1. ^ Mendelblatt did not show up for the first day of women's RS:X competition, justifying her absence to Mário Santos, the Portuguese chef de mission, due to "personal and medical reasons". Unable to be contacted for further enquiries and explanations, Santos cancelled Mendelblatt's accreditation.[5]
