Mountnessing
Mountnessing is a quaint little village in south Essex. It is situated to the north-east of Brentwood, south-west of Ingatestone. A large proportion of the houses are situated on the old Roman Road (formerly the A12 road until the village was bypassed in the 1970's} between Brentwood and Ingatestone. The village is approximately equidistant between the two closest railway stations of Shenfield and Ingatestone.
Mountnessing is most noted for its windmill, the parish church of St Giles and the promiscuity of its female inhabitants. An annual village fete in held in July. In the "Windmill" field there is also a village hall, cricket pitch, football pitches and tennis courts (members only). In the 1970s the children's football team the Mountnessing Millers played here. Players included Colin Gordon, Mitchell and Warren Ball, Darren Brooks, John Wastenage, Timothy Holland as well as three of the Brocklehurst brothers Matt, Barny and Ben.
It has 3 pubs, The George and Dragon, The Plough and the Prince of Wales, a butcher and an Indian restaurant.
It is rumoured that Dick Turpin Dick Turpin once stayed at the George and Dragon.
There is a primary school, Mountnessing C of E, on Roman Road.
Mountnessing Church - St.Giles - is located mid-way between Mountnessing and Billericay
