History

The foundations of Jamia Ahmadiyya were laid by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community himself, when he expressed that a madrassa for Ahmadi Muslims should be started to train the new generation of Ahmadi scholars.

This led to the creation of Talim-ul-Islam College in Qadian, India in 1898 which later had to be moved to Rabwah, Pakistan and exists to this day as a secular college that also teaches the classical Islamic sciences as part of its curriculum.

Jamia Ahmadiyya was inaugurated on May 20, 1928 by Mirza Bashir-ud-Din Mahmood Ahmad, Khalifatul Masih II of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community.

Curriculum and degree

The degree granted is the 7-year Shahid Degree in most Jamias, while in others a shorter 4-year degree is given. The curriculum for the Shahid Degree at Jamia Ahmadiyya Canada consists of:[5]

Jamia students come from various countries around the world and go to various Jamias as the curriculum is the same throughout the world at every Jamia. For example, in the Canadian Jamia Ahmadiyya, there are currently students from Bangladesh, Kyrgyzstan, India, Pakistan, and Palestine who were born and raised in those countries and came to Canada to enrol in the Canadian Jamia Ahmadiyya.
