Peace are an indie rock quartet from Birmingham, England, consisting of brothers Harrison (vocals, guitar) and Sam Koisser (bass), Douglas Castle (guitar) and Dominic Boyce (drums).[1] Signed to Columbia Records, the band began to receive critical acclaim in early 2012 from publications such as The Guardian and NME; who compared them to The Maccabees, Foals, Wu Lyf and Vampire Weekend.[2][1]
The quartet released their debut extended play—EP Delicious—on September 7, 2012.[3] Their first single, "Follow Baby", was released in April 2012; limited to 500 7" vinyl copies.[4] With a debut studio album scheduled for release on March 25, 2013,[5] the band are set to release lead single "Wraith" on January 13, 2013.[6] It was announced by the BBC on December 9, 2012, that Peace had been nominated for the Sound of 2013 poll.[7]
History
Peace formed in late 2011, with lead vocalist Harrison Koisser stating the band arose out of boredom; while the name was inspired by a photograph celebrating the end of World War Two.[1][8]
In January 2012, Peace released their first track "Bblood" online.[9] Having grabbed the attention of NME, the band were soon featured as part of the magazine's 'One's to Watch [in 2012]' feature; having been praised for:"Doomy, gruff vocals laced with foreboding guitars that board on tropical (and sound about 10 times more exhilarating than you imagine that could be".[9] Peace were also well received by The Guardian, who hailed them "the future of indie".[1]
Come April 2012, the band released their debut single "Follow Baby", which as a 7" vinyl was limited to 500 copies; 200 of which were signed by the four band members.[4] Having supported the likes of Mystery Jets and The Vaccines on tour,[10] Peace proceeded to release their debut extended play—EP Delicious—on September 7. Well-received by the BBC and NME, the four-track extended play featured "California Daze"; a track made available as a free download by the band in August of that year.[11][12]
On 9 December 2012, the BBC announced that Peace had been nominated for the Sound of 2013 poll.[7] Having failed to make the shortlist, the band released the lead single from their upcoming studio album—"Wraith"—on January 13, 2013;[6][5] where it debuted at number seventy-five on the UK Singles Chart for the week ending January 26, 2013.[citation needed]
