Recoil is a 2012 Canadian direct-to-video action film starring "Stone Cold" Steve Austin and Danny Trejo, directed by Terry Miles and written by John Sullivan. this movie is about A cop turns vigilante after his family is murdered, exacting vengeance on the killers - and then on all criminals who have slipped through the system.

Plot

Ryan Verett (Stone Cold Steve Austin) is an ex-cop who is determined to avenge his family’s death. In 2009, while Ryan was still a cop in Dallas, Texas, some members of his family, including his wife Constance Marie Varrett (Rebecca Robbins) and 9-year-old son Matt Ryan Varrett (Connor Stanhope), were viciously killed during a family celebration, by a group of clown-masked men. Ryan survived the assault, and, armed with a shotgun, Ryan found three of the killers, and killed them.

Ryan quit the Dallas police force, and now he hits the road to find everyone else responsible for the deaths of his loved ones, and take out other criminals who have slipped through the system. And Agent Frank Sutton (Lochlyn Munro), of the Seattle FBI office, is investigating the deaths of criminals.

After killing a brutal rapist named Dale James Burrows (Roman Podhora), Ryan ends up in the small town of Hope, Washington, where a gas station owner named Kirby (Patrick Gilmore) directs Ryan to a tiny hotel run by a woman named Darcy (Serinda Swan). Ryan finds Rex Ray Salgado (Noel Gugliemi) -- Rex is one of the killers who attacked Ryan's family.

It turns out that Hope is under the control of the Circle, a drug-dealing and arms-dealing biker gang led by Rex's extremely vicious brother, Drayke Salgado (Danny Trejo), who is the ATF's most wanted. Since Sheriff Cole (Tom McBeath) is in Drayke's pocket, Ryan has only himself and Darcy to count on. And it turns out that Darcy's husband Mike had been killed by Drayke's gang.

After Ryan kills Rex, Drayke declares war on Ryan, and the town of Hope becomes a battle ground. It turns out that Drayke masterminded the shooting of Ryan's wife, son, and three other family members, and the families of some other cops -- the cops who, years ago, sent him to prison, where he was brutalized.

Drayke got even with the men who brutalized him, and the prison stay only made him more vicious than he already was. When Drayke got out, he got even with the cops who put him away.

After Kirby gets killed by Drayke's right-hand man Crab (Keith Jardine), Sutton arrives in town, and Cole tries to convince him that Rex's death was an accident. Cole thinks that by appeasing the bikers, he's protecting the town from too much bloodshed. A furious Ryan finds Crab, and he burns Crab to death.

Since Cole wasn't of much help, Sutton goes to Deputy Hedge (Adam Greydon Reid), who is not in Drayke's pocket. Hedge explains that a long time ago, the Circle used to protect the town. That was before Drayke took over and started running guns. Rex came to Drayke with a recipe for meth, and Drayke and his gang started running drugs too.

Drayke and his gang are arming themselves for all-out war against Ryan, and they don't care who they have to kill. At night, Darcy hears some of the bikers approaching her hotel, and Ryan advises her to stay away from the windows. Ryan kills the three bikers. Outside, more bikers grab Darcy, and beat Ryan up.

On the next day, Ryan has been taken to Drayke, and some of his men bring Darcy into the room. They're on an abandoned ferry boat that Drayke uses as his headquarters. Drayke leaves his man Prospect (Tygh Runyan) to beat Ryan up as Darcy is taken out of the room. Ryan breaks free from his restraints, and takes care of Prospect.

Ryan, fighting through some of Drayke's men, finds Darcy and frees her. Deputy Hedge, who is Sheriff Cole's son, goes to Cole's house and finds Cole dead of a self-inflicted shot to the head. With Sutton's help, an angry Hedge plans to go after Drayke. On the boat, Ryan and Darcy find Drayke.

Ryan tells Darcy to hide, and she does. Ryan remembers Drayke being at the scene of the attack on his family. Before Ryan came to town, Drayke thought Ryan was dead. Ryan and Drayke start fighting. They beat on each other, and Drayke grabs a bladed weapon, and cuts Ryan on the arm with it.

Ryan disarms Drayke, and duct tapes his left hand to Drayke's left hand so they can fight one-handed. Sutton and Hedge get to the boat, with a lot of backup. Ryan's punches break several bones in Drayke's face.

Ryan undoes the duct tape, and lets Drayke collapse. But as soon as Ryan turns his back to talk to Darcy, who has come out of hiding, Drayke gets up, with the bladed weapon in his hand, and lunges at Ryan with it. Before Drayke can get to Ryan, a shot rings out, and the shot kills Drayke. It was Sutton who fired the shot.

Darcy decides that she's going to stay in Hope, and Sutton decides to not arrest Ryan. Hedge becomes the new sheriff, and Ryan decides to leave town, but he promises Darcy that he'll send her a postcard to let her know where he goes to.

Illegal downloading

In 2012, a Canadian judge ruled in favour of Recoil's production company, NGN Prima Production, and ordered internet service providers to reveal the names and addresses of people who had allegedly downloaded the film illegally. This was only recently made possible due to changes in Canadian law, making it the first lawsuit of its kind in the country. Further developments include one of the involved internet service providers filing the motion opposing disclosure of the customers information.
