This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Phil alias Harry (talk | contribs) at 01:52, 19 June 2006 (May 2006: my tuppenny-worth). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Attention:

This IP address, 203.53.201.11, is registered to Golden Grove Combined Schools and may be shared by multiple users. Comments left on this page may be received by other users of this IP and appear to be irrelevant. Caution should be used when blocking this IP or reverting its contributions without checking.

If you are an unregistered user operating from this address, note that this need not necessarily be the IP address of your machine. In many cases, it turns out to be the IP address of a proxy server that communicates between your browser and the Wikimedia servers. Such proxies are shared among a huge number of users compared to the number of persons using your particular machine. If you are frustrated by irrelevant comments appearing here, you can avoid them by creating an account for yourself.

However, you might still be unable to edit Wikipedia if the IP you are using is blocked due to a MediaWiki "feature". In such a case you could request to be unblocked.

In the event of vandalism from this address, efforts will be made to contact Golden Grove Combined Schools to report network abuse.

Message to Wikipedia Admins I am a user of this proxy server at Gleeson College. I welcome your invitation to create login accounts to avoid getting this IP banned. I have done so already you told us, but I would like to point out. Despite your invitation the restrictions on the internet here sometimes automatically log people out when they sign in to Wikipedia, this is the same for other websites that require a log in. Does this match your logs on activity from this IP or is it just the user name isn't displayed but is still logged in? If so I will contact our Admin to correct this problem. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Black Death (talkcontribs) 05:45, 29 May 2006 (UTC)

Hello - I'm not an admin, but I can try to explain. Whenever a user is logged in (whether they set their computer to "remember them" or they log in manually), edits by that person show up under the account they logged in as, not the IP. Conversely, if any user is not logged in, their edits are shown under their IP address.
If your admin is in a position to be able to track down the edits in question, he she can refer to the link below, which lists all edits by non-logged in users under this IP along with a date/time stamp.

I hope this helps --AbsolutDan (talk) 03:11, 8 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I have the same problem with being blocked. I will, at some point, try to produce a pop-up or banner at the top of the template which displays the blocked status of the IP address at the top of the page template. This will gelp reduce colateral damage. I have not had the problem of getting logged out for a while though, but back when Prune's forums were up I had problems there (Strangely, Pricey's Forums do not have this problem)

Warning: Please do not add obscenities to Wikipedia. Injecting unnecessary profanities, racially or sexually abusive comments, or provocative pictures to articles or user pages offends many people. Wikipedia treats such actions as vandalism and blocks people from editing for such repeated vandalism. -- King of Hearts talk 04:31, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

This page blocked at Gleeson

This page is periodically blocked at Gleeson, thus for the last few weeks students have been unaware of the threats of blocking. For this reason, I would request that the warnings are posted on the user page as well/ instead of here, so that sudents have the cance to rectify the problem.

I repeat the warning i posted on the user page that some vandalism, such as that made by a certain group of Gleeson yr12s to the evolution page, are violations of the campus acceptable use policy. It might be wise for one of the SF admins to post an e-mial address to which serious compliants can be directed. (This I am perfectly capable of doing, but may not do so at school due to the fact that this could be regarded as a voilation of the Acceptable Use policy. I could do it from home though, but there are several e-mail addresses thay might want to be used for this, so they might want to choose one themselves.)

I will in the mean-time be working on a script to produce a warning/blocked image at the top of the page alongside the sign-in link. this could be based on the script for the new messages link. this would also warn users not to log in, since this can lead to colatteral damage due to autoblocks, so it may be wise to put up the blocked icon on the log-in page. Tell me what you think!--|333173|3|_||3 01:55, 15 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
