    JOHN BENJAMIN HICKEY

    Hello,

We at the Schiff Company represent John Benjamin Hickey

I need to change his main picture as he really does not approve of it. I have a headshot he would like to use. How can I replace this main photo?

Alona Browner The Schiff Co — Preceding unsigned comment added by Alonabme (talkcontribs) 00:06, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You can freely release a photo following the procedures at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. However, there is no guarantee that the image will then be used in the article. the editors decide what is appropriate. And please note that as his representatives, you have a conflict of interest and should not directly edit the article, merely suggest changes and present sources on the article's talk page. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 00:12, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Misstake in table on Mobile telephony in Africa

    Mobile telephony in Africa#Current situation

This is supposed to be a table on the 10 main mobile telephony providers in Africa, it has 11 entries and one of them, Airtel, is clearly wrong, the percentages does not add up and there is no mention of Airtel in the source that is referenced. I'm not a contributor on wikipedia, but i thought this might be something someone should look into. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.136.90.173 (talk) 01:35, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Editing Gas Detector

Hi I have just submitted an edit for the subject of Gas detector.

I received a warning listing about my edit. As this is my first time ever making an edit like this I am not sure if it is a standard procedure or if I have genuinely done something wrong. I have referenced and linked to an article that I wrote on our web page on the topic. However before I did this I checked a couple of other references on the page and they linked to websites. Could it be the original article was going to be a blog but I have changed it to be a static page on our website. I think the URL still mentions blog but not sure how to remove it?

Before I continue I would like to make sure I am doing the right thing.

thanks Jacquie — Preceding unsigned comment added by AegisSafety (talkcontribs) 04:12, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi KaivalyaNagavekar. There is no automatic translation between languages. You can search the language links on the left hand side of any page to see if there is an article in the Marathi Wikipedia (mr:मुखपृष्ठ) but there is none for Vaisakhi. This really only leaves you with looking for information from some other website or source in Marathi. You could use Google Translate to view a machine translation of the page from English into Marathi (see here) but machine translations are notoriously poor.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 14:33, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

List of Hindu gurus and saints

    Dear editors of wiki,

I always see Wikipedia as the highest source of information in any subject. But when I was reading the list of Hindu gurus and saints I failed to see the name of his holiness Sri Chandrasekerendra Saraswati (paramacharyal) who the people of South consider as the holiest sage lived in the last century. Being the greatest devotee of him and many people from South being highly devoted to him on behalf of all I put this request to you please add his name in the list.

I am a professional copy-editor for organizations that do not have native English writers. I would like to offer my services to organizations that have Wikipedia entries which are not well-written. The work I would offer would not be marketing work (except, of course, that better language gives a better image), but simple brush-up of grammar and style.

Would this paid service go against the spirit of Wikipedia?

    Thanks for your help.

    08:56, 27 February 2014 (UTC)08:56, 27 February 2014 (UTC)~~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.112.25.104 (talk)

    Yes it would, see WP:COI and WP:BESTCOI.--ukexpat (talk) 15:12, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I tend to disagree. Assuming, for the purpose of argument, that the service this person is proposing to offer is in fact copy-editing and re-writing of existing articles, with no significant change in content, I don't see this as violating the current COI guideline. What the "spirit of Wikipedia" demands is hard to say, not all will agree. It seems to me that improvements in the grammar and language of articles that do not introduce or increase bias are quite in line with the "spirit of Wikipedia". That said, i would advise that if the OP goes forward with this s/he should: 1) register an account; 2) disclose this service on his or her user page, along with a list of articles edited in connection with this service, and a list of the clients who paid for each; 3) also disclose such paid editing on the talk page of any article so edited. The proposed change to the Terms of Use would require something of the sort, and it would be best to get in line with it early, in my view. DES (talk) 22:22, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to resort to a slippery slope argument - if we allow paid editing for minor stuff, it is a certainty (not necessarily in this case but more generally) that it will quickly slide into more aggressive editing.--ukexpat (talk) 13:11, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
People hold honestly differing opinions on this matter, but If I recall correctly, there was an RfC that would have effectively banned all paid editing, and that proposal did not achieve consensus. So when asked for advice, we should not act as if that were the policy. Stating our own opinions is perfectly proper, particularly when asked about the "spirit of Wikipedia" rather than the letter of the current policy/guideline, but it is not a bad idea to make it clear that there is a range of views on the point. My latest contribution to Wikipedia (external links)

    Dir Sir/Lady,

I had a previous communication with Osrarius regarding my latest contribution to Wikipedia via external links I added to LifeMap Discovery database (http://discovery.lifemapsc.com/). Since Osrarius seems not to be active these days, I would like to address this issue here with you. In brief, I noticed that all the external links I put during last month were removed by him, apparently because of conflict issues.

I would like to kindly clear this matter with you:'LifeMap Discovery database', is an novel up-to-date database that integrates multiple scientific areas such as developmental biology, stem cells and regenerative medicine which is reviewed constantly by a group of qualified scientists all over the world. Our intention is to provide additional valuable information to Wikipedia users about relevant subjects (e.g., links for human organ/tissue development and more).

Nevertheless, LifeMap people have been in dialog with WikiPedia about contributing content and imagery to expand upon developmental biology subjects.

If such a contribution as the external links seems to be problematic, I would like to kindly ask what is the best way we should approach it.

I would highly appreciate your thoughts on this.

    Many thanks,

    submission error

hello we have a prob with:

    Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Sofar Sounds

The comment from the moderator was: "Needs to be better formatted".

Not entirely sure what this means specifically. Could we get a little more information on how to improve?

Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Monicasofar (talkcontribs) 11:52, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it looks like the article is repeated twice so cut back to only one, the citations do not have enough enough information (publication date , author - the "cite" widget above the editing box can help with that formatting). The section titles "Format" and "Music" are not intuitive to me and after reading them, seem to serve more of an advertisement than encyclopedia coverage, which would focus more on history and impact. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 14:43, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Felllatio pictures

I'm rather liberal, but you may not be aware of the photo's on the Wikipedia page "Fellatio". The scientific and legal definitions are OK it's the drawings that you might want to examine for appropriateness. I would think from the definition of the word fellatio one would understand its a verb describing a sexual act. I know some of the photos are artistic expressions, but is this the place to post these and are they necessary? (Question about editing) "Categories Box"

While I was researching methods for adding categories to pages I came across something on Help:Category that I was hoping someone could clarify. It's the last sentence of the fourth paragraph in section "2 Putting pages in categories", and it states:

"The categories box also provides links to quickly add, remove, or modify category declarations on the page, without having to edit the whole page"

These links/tools sound like they'd be very helpful to editors, but after looking at dozens of pages I just can't seem to locate any examples of them. So my guess is that either: A) I'm looking in the wrong place; B) there's something wrong with my account (or browser) that is preventing the links from being displayed; or C) the links were part of the Categories Box template at one time but have since been removed — and the Help page just hasn't been updated yet to reflect it.

Thanks in advance for any insight you can provide. --Echo73 15:55, 27 February 2014 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Echo73 (talkcontribs)

The help page is referring the section at the bottom (usually) of any page that is in a category (including this page, see the Categories below). The help page is, I will admit, misleading, because without enabling the HotCat gadget, you cannot edit categories directly from that box, you can only do so with the article in edit mode.--ukexpat (talk) 16:11, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Trouble editing normal text near foreign-language text

In Taher Saifuddin, I wanted to edit the date information after the foreign-language representation of his name, changing "born on 4th August 1888" to "4 August 1888 – 12 November 1965". When I attempt this, the "4" ends up in front of the foreign characters. I have tried the normal editor, wikED, and AWB, and it always gets corrupted. What gives? After a few months away, I have decided to take another crack at an article submission after it was declined due to inadequate sourcing. I had sources, but the Wikipedia editor said since they came from interviews they were not objective. (Though I did not quote the artist in any of them, only the bio material that was in the stories.) Out of curiosity, I looked up several other contemporaries of my subject on Wikipedia. Without exception, they all used "interviews" of the subject as sources. In some cases, interviews were used only. Did I receive a tougher editor or is there a rule that interviews cannot be used as source material even though these other entries were allowed? I find myself in a situation in which there is plenty of material, but like many human subjects of interest, it is all found in stories that include interviews. Please advise. Thanks. (P.S. I was rusty when I went back into the article and couldn't seem to remember how to insert a new source properly. It is there in the text, but does not show in the draft for some reason.)

    Please advise.

Thank you.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Wkolosky (talkcontribs)

The issue isn't that the source is an interview per se - it is in a reliable source - but that the draft needs more references from reliable sources. At the moment the interview is the only secondary source.--ukexpat (talk) 16:32, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
the promotional blurbs that accompany interviews are generally just promotional fluff regurgitating the interviewee's CV not anything that validates that third parties have taken an un-involved interest in the subject. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:25, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That's why I said per se. There is no blanket rule that interviews in otherwise reliable sources can never be used. They must reviewed just like any other source. --ukexpat (talk) 17:40, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for these answers...I understand all. But can someone tell me why Bass Musician Magazine is not a reliable source? (No promotional blurbs are included in my draft from these sources.) Thanks.

I didn't say it wasn't reliable, but as with any source, even for example the New York Times, you have look what it actually says to see if it supports what is being cited.--ukexpat (talk) 18:36, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
And with WP:GNG criteria for having a stand alone article on the subject, its having multiple sources independent of the subject that discuss the topic in a significant manner. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 18:52, 27 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

No Quarter: Jimmy Page and Robert Plant Unledded (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

The idea of this project was first suggested by a fan of Led Zeppelin while Robert was on tour during The Fate Of Nations in January 1994. The Mexico show was the last night and while the audience applauded that, Plant responded negatively having a deep desire to continue performing. He was at the end of his solo run. The fan was staying at the same Hotel as Plant in Mexico City met up with him 3 times. They discussed why the fan had traveled from Maryland USA to the show and Plant expressed interest in his Led Zeppelin necklace the "Hermit" among other things Zeppelin. Over breakfast the day after the show the fan expressed a concern and an idea about Plant's next project. While Plant was at first reluctant about the suggestion he made a promise to the fan. A copy of the handmade Hermit necklace for a phone call to Jimmy. Hands shuck. This call quickly led to the fan hearing on the radio back in the States that Plant and Page were in the studio recording. Ten year later the fan on Father's Day delivered the necklace to Security who delivered it to Plant. Plant wore the necklace that night for the Strange Sensations at the Borgata Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City, N.J. Promises kept by fan and legend! The 2 albums and tours were a great hit to many fans who never saw Zeppelin. [3]

    Rejected article on AFC

Hi. I wrote an article on Ken Block last month (Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Ken Block (businessman)) and it was rejected yesterday. I followed the guidelines in the AFC wizard to the letter so I'm not sure what I did wrong. The reviewer left a link but it doesn't work. I'm guessing they meant WP:POLITICIAN but I didn't submit Block as a politician. I was going by Wikipedia:Notability (people) ("If a person has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject, they are presumed to satisfy the inclusion criteria for a stand-alone article.") on the fourth page of the AFC wizard (Wikipedia:Article wizard/Biographical notability). I included 54 cited references which all pass Wikipedia:RS (Wikipedia:Article wizard/Sources). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. 72.74.204.125 (talk) 00:08, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It may be that Hasteur meant to type WP:N (the main notability page) and changed his mind and intended WP:POLITICIAN. Since Block is a politician, or at least a political figure, deriving most of his notability from his campaign for Governor and his subsequent political stands and advocacy. So it is appropriate to look at WP:POLITICIAN. He clearly does not pass point 1 of that, as he has never held office. Point 2 could be argued. So we fall back to WP:ANYBIO or the WP:GNG (point 3 of is basically just the WP:GNG restated). I will look this over from that point of view, and respond further. DES (talk) 00:31, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The draft looks acceptable to me, but as a matter of courtesy, and in case I missed soemthign relevant, i have left a message for the previous reviewer on User talk:Hasteur#Draft:Ken Block (businessman). DES (talk) 01:15, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
By the way, while I would tend to approve this, there are a number of improvements that I think can and should be made. First, since Block is largely notable as a political figure -- his business career alone would probably not justify an article -- I would name this Ken Block (politician) or perhaps "political activist". Secondly, in the "Master Lever" section especially there is some prose that confuses what is being attributed to Block or others with what is being stated as fact. In particular, the sentence "The master lever also created an unfair advantage for majority political parties at the expense of minority and third-parties." is stated as if it were a fact, but is uncited. It looks to me as if this is the opinion of Block, or perhaps of the Moderate Party or others seeking removal of the "master lever" option. If so, it needs to be clearly attributed. That whole paragraph blurs from attributed opinion to what look like statements of fact, but are probably continued opinion. This needs to be fixed. Also, there is little or no mention of any negative opinions of Block. This makes it look like a promotional article. The reliably sourced negative opinions of Block (and I can't beloved that there are none, after he was in a campaign for Gov, much less his other activities) must be quoted and attributed. DES (talk) 01:15, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the help. I'll keep working on the article. The claim "The master lever also created an unfair advantage for majority political parties at the expense of minority and third-parties." is sourced to Politifact.com, WarwickOnline.com. I included everything I could find online that appeared to be a reliable source. There's not a whole lot of criticism of Block, I think, simply because he's never held political office. That being said there are criticisms of Block included in the article. In the "2010 election" section he's blamed by political insiders, and specifically the RI Republican Party, for his part in the 4-way race that got Chafee elected into office (citations 5 and 8). The fourth paragraph of the "Jump to the Republican Party" deals with his poor rating on PolitiFact.com (citation 51). I know he got some flak for joining the Republican Party though I don't have a specific source for that. 72.74.204.125 (talk) 03:11, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Er no it isn't do sourced. Neither of those articles mention an effect on mintority parties at all, ewither in the editorial voice or in a quote attributesd to Block or indeed to anyone else. Moreover, neither is cited in the Wikipedia article to support that statement. But this discussion should now move to the article talk page. DES (talk) 11:00, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Holly Finley is currently a professional disc golfer who was named the 2013 P.D.G.A.'s Rookie of the Year. Holly Finley is sponsored by Innova, the largest disc manufacturer in the world. In 2013, Holly Finley was the only female to compete in the sport's most prestigious event, the United States Disc Golf Championship - Performance Edition. She placed 7th and earned an invite back for the 2014 tournament.[1]

    Amateur career

Holly started playing disc golf in 2011 before moving to Africa for a modeling contract.Cite error: The <ref> tag has too many names (see the help page). While in Africa, she decided that competing in tournaments during 2012 would be her goal. Upon returning from Africa, she entered into her 1st tournament and then went on to compete in 27 P.D.G.A. sanctioned events during the year. She placed 4th at the Amateur Disc Golf World Championships and decided to turn pro the following year. During her amateur career she was awarded Amateur Women's Points leader.

    Professional career

Holly competed in 29 sanctioned events during her first season as a professional in 2013. She ranked 7th in the National Tour Elite Points series and played the 2nd most sanctioned events of any pro female disc golfer. Holly was awarded PDGA Rookie of the Year 2013.

The primary issue was that you had not "closed" the footnote by placing a </ref> tag at the end. That meant the software looked at everything as part of the footnote to display at the bottom of the page. Since you couldnt see the content, you placed another copy of the body and closing and that just repeated the error again.

    Switching article and redirect page

Owing to the good faith action of an earlier editor the article on the actress Mabel Terry-Lewis is wrongly titled Mabel Terry–Lewis with an en-dash where the hyphen should be. There is a redirect page with the correct title. The content of the article should be on Mabel Terry-Lewis rather than Mabel Terry–Lewis, and the latter should be either removed altogether or turned into a redirect page. I do not know how to do this without mucking up the edit history of the article. Help gratefully received. Tim riley (talk) 08:51, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Isn't there a bot that goes around fixing malformed AfDs?--ukexpat (talk) 18:48, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That won't help here because the AfD page needs to be created first for any bot to know to act and the issue is that IPs can't create non-talk pages so the person cannot create the AfD page itself. The best solution would be for you, 71.20.250.51, to create an account, which should take you less than one minute. I would go do the nomination for you and someone else might, but I am unwilling because from the text of your nomination it does not look like you have done any due diligence (see WP:BEFORE) to see whether this person is actually notable, rather than whether the article demonstrates notability. The former, and not the latter, is a proper basis for a resource intensive AfD.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 19:04, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Widths of content on the right-hand side

Take a look at Alois Delug, and specifically the right-hand side. There's an infobox, a picture and a box with a link to Commons. All three are right-aligned but have different widths, and that's making the page look ugly. Is there a non-horrible way to fix that (i.e., no substing in templates onto the page and fiddling with magic numbers there, no hard-coding image widths)? Facing the Sky (talk) 15:31, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Well, you could move the commons category template to the left by including "|position=left" to the template but I don't know if that will make it any prettier to you. It looks fine the way it is to me. If more text were added to the article, that would help the whitespace at the bottom of the article. Dismas|(talk) 15:46, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I tried previewing with the commonsbox on the left, but it didn't really look good there either (and I couldn't rationalise it appearing in the 'References' section anyway). That doesn't help the infobox-picture discord, either. I agree it'd look better with more text, but the article as it is needs some more sources dug out before it can be expanded. Facing the Sky (talk) 15:54, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
How about an 'External links' section at the bottom with |position=left parameter for the Commons link.  You can tinker with the infobox image by adding |image size =  Also, the thumbnail painting image can be tinkered with by replacing "thumb" with XXXpx (XXX is size in pixels). You could also consider moving the image to a {{gallery}} (and add others) -- which displays horizontally. ~Just a thought,  ~:71.20.250.51 (talk) 16:28, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oh!  See: Template:Commons category-inline ... this would work better for a link in the 'External links' section
    E.g.: {{Commons-inline|Alois Delug}} renders:
Media related to Alois Delug at Wikimedia Commons
    ~:71.20.250.51 (talk) 16:57, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The problem with hard-coding a pixel size for the picture is that then there's no automatic resizing according to preference/resolution—but the image in the infobox, which partially determines the infobox's width, would get resized. So, that only works if the infobox's image and the picture are given fixed sizes and the infobox's extra padding is also fixed, but I think that that might cause problems across different viewing configurations (e.g., images too large on phone screens, or too small on big monitors).
If I can figure out a way to get Template:Authority control to render inline, an 'External links' section would be good for that and the commonsbox. Facing the Sky (talk) 17:03, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Should list-like "Popular culture" info be moved to an article or to a disambiguation page?

Dear editors: There's an article, Still waters run deep, and a redirect to it Still waters run deep (fable). There is also an old Afc submission Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Still waters run deep which has a "popular culture" section. Then there's another page Still waters run deep (disambiguation). Should the "popular culture" information be added to the mainspace article as it is in the draft, or would this be unnecessary duplication? If the extra items are added to the disambiguation page instead, does the attribution need to be preserved? (It's just a few words.) —Anne Delong (talk) 17:36, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

"In popular culture" sections should have third party sources discussing the how/what/whys the appearance in popular culture is notable/worth encyclopedia coverage. Without that, the DAB is a better home. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 18:05, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]
After looking at those, I agree. The "popular culture" section in the AFC article is really a disambiguation list, and should be included only in the disambiguation article and nowhere else. Other articles should have a tag {{for}} or {{otheruses}} at the top.
I see no reason to list any of these popular culture items in the primary topic article, just because they happen to have the same name. The only exception might be for items where the title and its association with the primary topic is discussed in reliable sources. ~Amatulić (talk) 18:07, 28 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

It was fixed long ago in [4]. A pipe '|' is part of template syntax and can normally not be part of a template parameter. Use of "etc" - is there a guideline?

I have noticed "etc" is used sometimes in Wikipedia, but doesn't this go against the principles if it's not obvious what the "etc" means? Wondering if there's any guidance on this - I can't find anything in the help pages (the example I'm looking at is Packaging and labeling, where there are several instances). Cheers! I'm not aware of any specific guideline on the use of "etc", Tony Holkham, and i don't think we need one. I would say that, in general, clearer and less ambiguous writing is preferred. If you fell you can rewrite an article to improve its clarity, while still staying within what cited sources support, feel free to go ahead and be WP:BOLD. I looked at the uses of "etc" in Packaging and labeling and I didn't find any of them particularly unclear, although no doubt they could be improved. DES (talk) 01:24, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Viewing Alok Ulfat shows that the page was deleted in September 2012, and the reason was "One author who has requested deletion or blanked the page". If a person creates a page then blanks the page (and no one else has edited it), it is assumed that the author was conducting a test that is no longer required, and the page should be deleted. You could put a new section at User talk:Yunshui and ask the administrator who deleted the page to put the last useful version somewhere for you to reconsider. I am the great, great, great granddaughter of sampson Moore and the writer of the article is abviously related as well. I would love be able to contact them. Is this possible? and how would I go about it? Pabkab — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pabkab (talkcontribs) 10:15, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Doesn't seem very likely to be possible, but I see one of your relatives is attempting the same thing at User talk:Engineers11. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 10:22, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
As this request is the only edit by your account, you may not understand the history of an article, so I will explain why Demiurge1000 is being so negative.
If you go to the page on Sampson Moore and click "View history" tab at the top, you will see that the article was created on 30 December 2011‎ by an editor User:Engineers11 if you then click on "contribs" after Engineers11's name you will see all the edits they made - which were all made on 30/31 December 2011.
Having only edited for 2 days, well over two years ago, it is unlikely that they will reappear. They have not answered the message left on their talk page User talk:Engineers11 by User:Moore des in February/March 2012. - Arjayay (talk) 11:12, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    I need to contact Elizium23

Can someone message this gentleman here on Wiki and have him message me as I have left a message for him and need an answer.

I am unsure who to contact him on his page. He is very informative and professional and full of good information.

    Thank you Truth&law — Preceding unsigned comment added by Truth&law (talkcontribs) 11:17, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

You can contact Elizium23 by leaving a message on User talk:Elizium23 the same way you left a messgae here. GB fan 12:08, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Looking at your edit history, you have not left a message for him at User talk:Elizium23, you left an unsigned message on your own talk page, not including any link to him, so will not be notified. Having last contacted him in July 2013, your talk page is hardly likely to attract his attention. I also note he gave you a link so you can e-mail him. You need to either leave a message on his talk page, or e-mail him. - Arjayay (talk) 12:09, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Review of My Article

    Hi,

I am writing to let you know that I have created an article by February 11, then edited it. my article is under review and I do not know it is in which stage. Would you please help me and let me know the time I will receive the final review result. The link of my article is: http://en.wikipedia.org/enwiki/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/International_Journal_of_Health_Policy_and_Management_(IJHPM)&action=history

Looking forward to receive your kind reply ASAP.

    Yours Sincerely,

    Mina — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mina.Moradzadeh (talkcontribs) 12:01, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

it is unlikely to be approved anytime soon no matter when it is actually reviewed. there is no evidence that it meets the requirements for a stand alone article: that independent reliable sources have written about it in a significant manner, and so the review is going to decline. In addition, the formatting is a mess with about a gazillion inappropriate external links in the body of the article. Those will all need to be removed. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 13:09, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
in addition, the piece reads as an advertisement, not an encyclopedia article. all addresses to the reader (" gives you this opportunity to " ) will need to be removed. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 13:31, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Wikipedia is not a link repository, and it's not a place to promote a product. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, it contains encyclopedia articles. Your content is merely a paragraph describing a product (that "sources" its own website) and a directory of links, it is not an encyclopedia article. I suggest you glance at WP:COI before attempting a rewrite, as well. Scarce2 (talk) 13:40, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Formatting weirdness

The Yonsei University article's header seems to display its name in italics, for no reason I can understand. I've looked for the usual ways in which an article might display an italicised title, such as the DISPLAYTITLE or {{italic title}} mechanisms, and can find nothing. Possibly this is happening through a template side effect, but I can't see it. Does anyone know how this is happening? -- The Anome (talk) 14:07, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

    Fixed with italic title = no in {{Infobox magazine}}.[5] PrimeHunter (talk) 14:13, 1 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Letting someone else do your homework does not help you learn nearly as much as doing it yourself. Please attempt to solve the problem or answer the question yourself first. Barun De

    Dear Madam/Sir,

I write to appeal against the editing of an article I had started on 21 May 2007 on Barun De. I signed in as B_de2002. It has been locked for an year, until 15 February 2014, by a group of editors, who have all commented on TalK: Barun De. My contention is that the contents of the page are not agreeable with the original writer of the article. Since there is no agreement between the original writer and a few editors, I sincerely request that the page be deleted.

Bikramjit De — Preceding unsigned comment added by 117.194.241.191 (talk) 04:38, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The situation has been explained in crystal clear terms at Talk: Barun De, so you know that by coming here you are wasting your own time and ours. --David Biddulph (talk) 05:31, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Please read the policy that no one "owns" an article and the caution against forum shopping. By coming here after having the situation explained on the article talk page, you are forum-shopping. You have a right to request that the article be deleted via the Articles for Deletion process, but, as was discussed on the talk page, that is unlikely to prevail, because, although the subject is not notable as a historian, he is notable as an administrator. You do not have a right to request that the article be deleted because of disagreements between different editors, or because the article is not satisfactory to the subject's family. If you think that the subject's family has the right to veto the article if it doesn't pass their wishes, you are mistaken, and as David Biddulph said, you are wasting everyone's time including your own. That is not how Wikipedia works. Robert McClenon (talk) 00:30, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There are quite a few articles, such as Liswerry and Ringland, Newport, that use {{Infobox UK place}} with unitary_wales = [[Newport, Wales|Newport]]. But the sentence below the map that says, for instance, "Liswerry shown within Newport", still links to Newport (a disambiguation page) rather than to Newport, Wales. How can I fix this? —Mr. Granger (talk · contribs) 05:20, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is in Template:Infobox UK place/local, which is a protected template. I have made an edit request at Template talk:Infobox UK place/local. Thanks for pointing it out. --David Biddulph (talk) 05:46, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

If you have information to contribute to Shyne Po or any other article, you are welcome to put it in; but please be aware that information in Wikipedia (especially about living persons) is required to be referenced to a published reliable source. The information about his origin in Belize is cited in the article which in no longer available, but you need a reliable source to change it to something different. --ColinFine (talk) 12:17, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

how to change title of an article

There's a small mistake in the name of the person. (link below)

the last name first letter is in lower case, and I dont know how to change it:

it says: David lussier but it should be David Lussier (capital L)

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_lussier

is there a way to change it? Because if the search engine is case sensitive it could be a problem.

@Wisez001: I've moved it for you and done a copyedit, added categories and so on. You would not have been able to move it yet as your account is not yet autoconfirmed. Here's the problem Wisez001: you are not using reliable sources to verify the article but rather using user generated sources which neither show notability nor are they proper to verify the article's content.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 07:30, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting log - starting at 17.07 today, one editor thanked the same other editor 30 times in 4 minutes, with 7 more in the subsequent minutes - is this a competition? or does it actually achieve anything? - Arjayay (talk) 17:54, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
    • Arjayay, that actually sounds like abuse of the feature to me, which has been part of the argument for logging which edit in that BZ ticket I mentioned above. My current position is that the people who should be able to see which edit include the system itself (another ticket which is mentioned in there could use this information being added to the database to prevent multiple thanking from one user to another for the same edit), the user sending the thanks, the user who received the thanks, oversighters, and anyone who has been vetted through an election process or is otherwise attached to the privacy policy (admins, crats, developers, etc). Anyways... Happy editing! — {{U|Technical 13}} (tec) 19:03, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There have been a few incidents in which the "thank" feature has been used abusively as a form of harassment. Robert McClenon (talk) 00:18, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

How do I upload an Image

I need help in knowing how to upload a JPG image from my computer so it shows up in my page article and question that I want to ask on the reference desk? I am new to Wikipedia, this is my first time. I don't want to mess it up and would appreciate a walk through the process. Can I copy and paste with my photo or what is the process? I am totally confused and need your help. thank youPolkateer (talk) 21:54, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Polkateer. Adding images to Wikipedia is a two-stage process: the image must first be uploaded from your computer to Wikipedia, or preferably to a sister project called Wikimedia Commons (because then the pictures can be used in other projects, such as other-language Wikipedias). Wikipedia is very strict on copyright, so the picture normally must have been explicitly released by the copyright holder on a suitable licence: if you hold the copyright (which will usually be the case if you took the picture), then you can licence it; but if you don't, and are not in contact with the copyright holder this may be difficult. (Most pictures found on the internet cannot be used, or can only be used under very limited restrictions, for this reasons). Once the image is in Wikipedia or Commons, then you can use it in an article.
You can find out more about how to do these two steps at Help:Uploading images and WP:Image tutorial. --ColinFine (talk) 23:12, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Query about inappropriately protecting talk pages

I have a concern about what I feel may be inappropriate protection of a talk page. A while back, I commented on a discussion on this talk page:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Anjem_Choudary

I recently came across another dispute on the same page and, curious to see how the original discussion turned out, looked at it again.:

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Anjem_Choudary/Archive2

The page has now been archived but, in a nutshell, it was addressing references to photos published in tabloid newspapers. User:Bencherlite felt that details sourced from tabloid newspapers are never acceptable for inclusion and, as he felt that this should be the end of the discussion, he made the decision to protect the section from further edits with the following justification:

"Wikipedia does not source information of this sort from tabloid newspapers. I have protected the page from editing from anonymous and new editors to prevent further breaches of the Wikipedia policy for articles about living people. That's enough of this discussion."

I have been unable to locate a particular Wikipedia guideline or rule that specifically addresses this but, as far as I am aware, for an editor to simply shut down discussion on a talk page because he disagrees with the forming consensus is way out of line. Is this correct? I have not seen this occur anywhere else on Wikipedia.

As an additional note, what concerns me further is that User:Bencherlite was probably wrong anyway. According to Wikipedia:Potentially unreliable sources the use of tabloid newspapers should only be avoided when there are other reliable sources. A blanket ban is simply not correct. As tabloid newspapers were the only source for the news in question, the information cannot be removed on this basis. Thus, it is even more concerning that not only did User:Bencherlite inappropriately close down a discussion, he did so on the basis on an incorrect application of editing policy.

I appreciate that this happened a while back (June 2013) but, on my recent revisit, it is clear that a small group of editors, primarily User:Bencherlite and User:Parrot of Doom have driven off a large number of other editors over a lengthy period of time with a constant refusal to permit edits they have not made, twinned with a generally aggressive and hostile approach. Thus, the issues that are raised by this inappropriate action are still ongoing and seem to be having a negative impact on the quality of the article and the collaborative editing process. I have said that I felt that the editors in question are acting inappropriately but many others have made similar comments and have been rudely rebuffed.

I would be grateful if someone could a) let me know whether I am way off base with these concerns and b) what steps I can take (if any) to try to assist in resolving these concerns about the editing process of this article? Thanks. Robinr22 (talk) 21:57, 2 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

WP:BLP is the policy you are looking for. Content about living people must be from impeccable sources, particularly potentially controversial content. Tabloids are certainly never allowed for use for their main fare - scandal about living people. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 03:04, 3 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
