Mae West (August 17, 1893 - November 22, 1980) was an actress in the early days of "talkies", or motion pictures with soundtracks. She was the prototypical femme fatale. Perhaps her best known role was opposite W. C. Fields in the movie My Little Chickadee.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was early-on a vaudeville child star, and soon started starring in risque plays of her own writing. Her first role as a film star was in 1932, in She Done Him Wrong.
