The State Mufti of Brunei is the most senior and most influential Sunni Muslim religious and legal authority in Brunei. The holder of the position is appointed by the Sultan of Brunei. The State Mufti is the head of the all Ulema in Brunei

The first State Mufti of Brunei was Ismail bin Omar Abdul Aziz (1962-1965) for 3 years. He previously was Mufti of Johore in Malaysia.

In 1989, he again became the Mufti of Brunei until his death.

In 1994, Brunei-born Vice State Mufti Abdul Aziz bin Juned became the State Mufti of Brunei.
