Kirinnya is a location in Kira Municipality, in Wakiso District, Central Uganda. The correct spelling in the local Ganda language is with two "n"s.

Location

Kirinnya is located in Kirinnya Ward, in southeastern Kira Municipality, Wakiso District, Central Uganda. This location lies approximately 12 kilometres (7.5 mi), by road, east of downtown Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city.[1] Kirinnya is bordered by Bweyogerere to the north, Namanve to the northeast, Namilyango, Mukono District to the east, Murchison Bay to the south, Butabika to the west and northwest. The coordinates of Kirinnya are:0°19'12.0"N, 32°40'30.0"E (Latitude:0.3200; Longitude:32.6750).[2]

Overview

Kirinnya is a middle-class residential neighborhood. In between the residential dwellings, are schools, churches, soccer fields and one supermarket. There is a housing estate of about 150 single family homes developed by Akright Projects Limited, the largest indigenous real estate developer in Uganda.[3]

Population

In 2002, the national census estimated the population of Kira Municipality at 142,800. Kirinnya's population at the time was about 15,200 (approximately 11% of the total).[4] In 2011, the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS), estimated the mid-year population of Kira, Uganda at about 179,800.[5] Given that data, it is estimated that the estimated population of Kirinnya in 2011 is about 20,000.
