Vandalia is the name of some places in the United States of America:

It was also a poetic name for Andalusia since it was ruled by the Vandals.

In Don Quixote, the bachelor Sansón Carrasco disguises himself as an errant knight paying courtly love to the imaginary Casildea of Vandalia, playing with the contrast between chivalric fantasy and reality.

It had also been applied by the British to a proposed 14th colony which would have encompassed a vast territory west of the Allegheny Mountains including most of present day West Virginia and much of Kentucky. Point Pleasant, West Virginia, was the proposed capital of this colony.

A biotechnology company has also been started in Huntington, West Virginia by the name of Vandalia Research.

USS Vandalia has been the name of four ships in the United States Navy.
