HowToBasic is an anonymous Australian YouTube channel with over seven million subscribers that gained popularity in 2012-2013 for its bizarre and misleading instructional videos - often with the reoccurring theme of throwing and smashing eggs or other food-related objects such as ingredients and condiments.

The channel has over seven million subscribers as of April 2016,[2][3] the highest of any Australian YouTube channel.[3][4] In June 2013, the person behind HowToBasic was interviewed as part of a 6 PM News Bulletin by Nine News Perth broadcast on STW. The station preserved his anonymity on his request.[5] HowToBasic videos have been facetiously compared to the work of David Cronenberg and Marcel Duchamp.[6]

The channel is a part of the Fullscreen network.[4] HowToBasic has collaborated with other YouTube personalities such as Max Stanley of "maxmoefoe", George "Joji" Miller of "TVFilthyFrank", and Ian Kovic of "iDubbbzTV".

His videos mostly consist of him throwing, mixing, or smashing food ingredients against the counter tops and floor of his kitchen in a random manner, generally creating a large mess. On some occasions he may also smash several other objects ranging from household appliances to various electronics such as computers. In one of his videos, he used a shotgun to destroy various objects.[7]

The channel has been briefly suspended on multiple occasions, once in 2014 and again in late 2015 on presumed violations of YouTube's policy on misleading content. Soon after, the channel was restored, and suspension lifted in both circumstances.[8][9][10]
