Emil Weber Meek (born August 20, 1988) is a Norwegian professional mixed martial artist currently competing in the UFC's Welterweight (MMA) division.[1]

Background

Meek grew up in Nesna in Nordland, and later lived in Mosjoen, Trondheim and Oslo.[2] In 2012, Meek started his mixed martial arts (MMA) career. He has a MMA-record of 9 wins, 2 losses and 1 no contest. Meek runs MMA Trondheim together with Thomas Formo.

Mixed martial arts career

Meek is undefeated in his amatuer MMA career (6-0).[3]

Meek made his professional MMA debut on 12 March 2011 against Magnus Frekman. Meek defeated Frekman via TKO 45 seconds into the first round. For his second fight he fought Mohammed Abdallah. He lost the bout by TKO in the first round. After this loss, Meek went on a four fight win streak.[1] He was awarded «2013 Prospect of the Year» by MMA Viking.[4]

On August 20 2016, he won the Venator Fighting Championship Welterweight title by defeating Rousimar Palhares via TKO in the first round. Meek stopped Palhares with a series of punches and elbows to the side of the head, while defending from Palhares' takedown attempt.[5]

On 10 December 2016, Meek made his UFC debut against Canadian Jordan Mein on the maincard of UFC 206 in Toronto, Canada. He was successful in his first UFC bout, winning via unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).[6]
