"Passin' Me By" is a song by California alternative hip hop group The Pharcyde, released in March 1993 through Delicious Vinyl Records. The song was the second single released from the group's influential 1992 debut Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde, and has since become considered one of the greatest tracks in hip hop history. The song, produced by J-Swift, utilizes a sample from "Summer in the City" by Quincy Jones. The group's four emcees, Bootie Brown, Slim Kid 3, Imani and Fatlip, all use the track to recount schoolboy crushes, which all eventually lead to heartbreak.
The song peaked at #1 on the Hot Rap Singles chart, and neared the top 50 on the Billboard Hot 100 and the top 25 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks charts. It was later included in comprehensive hip hop collections such as The Hip Hop Box and Hip Hop Gold, and was listed on The Source magazine's "100 Best Singles" list.[1] In 1999, the single was featured on the soundtrack to, and in the hit 1999 movie Big Daddy.
