Sonal Jha was born in Bihar, Patna and was involved in theater since her childhood. She did Theater for 15 years from her childhood. She was affiliated with IPTA theater, Patna, and performed as an actress, singer, dancer, etc. with the theater. Sonal Jha later moved to Delhi to pursue post graduate education, receiving a Masters degree from Delhi University[3].
Acting career
She became a member of Ekjute Theater Group and learned a lot from Nadira Babbar, an eminent theater personality. She acted in several plays staged all over India. The play 'Ithihas Tumhe Le Gaya Kanhayiya', and 'Suman Aur Sana' are few of them. After few more plays, she picked up by Prakash Jha for his regional (Bhojpuri) stint and donned the mighty mother of Bahubali [4] and thus her journey her quest for theater and cinema begins. She has shot to fame as Indian soap opera's sensitive and charming mother while donning Irawati in Balika Vadhu. That made her a household name after playing equally important roles in 'Sapno Ke Bhanwer Main' and 'Na Aana Is Des Laado'. She can be seen on stage reincarnating the iconic character Jodha in Mughal-E-Azam[5], the musical. Her short film MAD is Perfect 10 winner at The Mumbai Film Festival.
