Localities of Iceland
Iceland portal |
This is a list of cities and towns in Iceland. Some cities, such as Hafnarfjörður and Akranes, are also municipalities. These municipalities would share the same name and attributes. However, most recognized municipalities consist of several cities or towns. Therefore, municipalities for which there is no city or town of the same name are not included here. In the case of Árborg, for example, there are three entries: the cities or towns of Selfoss, Eyrarbakki, and Stokkseyri. There are also a few municipalities in which no cities or towns exist, and are thus not included in the list below. All localities in Iceland can only be located within a single municipality[1].
List of localities in Iceland
The government of Iceland does not officially distinguish between cities and towns. However, settlements with populations in excess of 1,000 are generally considered to be cities.[citation needed] Cities shaded in pale green in the table are their respective regional capitals.
