Cyprogenia is a genus of freshwater mussels, aquatic bivalve mollusks in the family Unionidae.

One of the most endangered species in North America, being that its reproductive strategies involve a parasitic life stage on a host fish. The reproductive strategies of these freshwater mussels involve some species develop modified lures that mimic aquatic invertebrates to attract the host fish, Glochidium, and latches into the host’s gills for nutrients. The main types of natural fish lures; dispensing lures, trapping lures, conglutinate Lures and mantle lures.[1]
