Wikipedia:Requests for expansion

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by ChaChaFut (talk | contribs) at 06:29, 30 November 2006 (November: +Roberto Carlos da Silva). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Almost every article in Wikipedia could do with some expansion. This page is for listing those for which there is a specific request. It is an excellent venue to publicize important articles which are embarrassingly short or insufficient for an encyclopedia of the stature to which Wikipedia aspires.

Articles to list here:

  • Stubs - Articles that are very short. These should be tagged with {{stub}}, or a topic-specific stub tag.
  • Longer articles that still need expansion. Be sure to tag these {{expand}} when you nominate them.
  • Sections in particular need of expansion within an article may be tagged with {{expandsection}} or {{Sectstub}}.

Articles not to list here:

How to add a new listing

Please list entries chronologically (newest at top) and add {{expand}} to the talk page, with a note about what needs to be expanded. On this page, be sure to sign your post with ~~~~ so the date will be included. Please also bold the title of the article you are adding, to make the list easier to read.

Instead of using {{expand}}, you may instead choose to add an item to an article's todo list, located on the talk page. Add the {{todo}} template to the top of the article's talk page, and then fill out the /todo subpage explaining what needs to be added.

Cleanup needed

Please help remove listings which have already been expanded. To determine this, you can check the article's history tab. Compare the length of the article from when the request was posted here to its current length. If there was a request for expansion of a particular point, see if this was done.

Articles that have been expanded should have the {{expand}} tag removed from the talk or article page.

In order to prevent this page from getting too long, requests older than six months should be removed from this page entirely. When doing so, please move the comment accompanying the request from this page to the article's talk page, and make sure it is tagged {{expand}}. This ensures that the article will continue to be featured on the opentask list and Category:Articles to be expanded until it is eventually expanded.

More listings

Many articles tagged {{expand}} are listed in Category:Articles to be expanded but not on this page.

2006

Please place new requests at the top of the appropriate list and make the article link bold.

  • Merit (Buddhism) - Please expand this small article. I am pretty sure there are plenty of information floating around about merit in Buddhism, so please if you can find any good information that is referenced, be sure to expand this article. Monkey Brain(untalk) 02:58, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Chinese astronomy - Currently this is a tiny article, even after I added the little I know, yet it is a major topic in the history of astronomy. It especially needs help in the area of modern astronomy. Anyone knowing about current research or astronomical organizations, or even just the names of some Chinese astronomers, should add something. Katherine Tredwell 20:27, 1 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Crossdock - Crossdocking was a major innovation in transportation logistics, with much work pioneered by Wal-mart. This page could use much more information about the history of crossdocking, inventory reductions in crossdocking, the relationship between crossdocking and just-in-time production, and so on. 12:40, 2 August 2006 (PDT)

Added a bit on Enver Hoxha as he's the closest thing I know to this in real life.--T. Anthony 13:22, 12 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • The Apple -- A 1980 cult Sci-fi-musical film directed by Menahem Golan and considered by many as the worst film ever made.
  • Red TideA natrual phenomenon growing in occurrence and public knowledge. Just about everything needs to be improved. From the human threat to its impact on the fishing industry there are many ways in which things can be added to this article. A section about large out brakes within the past __ years would be good feature.
  • Lost Animals of the 20th Century -- new article about the Discovery Channel show. Needs expansion, specifically on the list of animals featured and referencing since the article's main information are derived mostly from memory. Joey80 06:26, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Chicken Little (character) -- Expand with more info; if the villains have articles of their own, the hero should as well. In addition, include a section for the 1943 short. Georgia guy 22:13, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • 'Battle of Wuhan -- A battle with 1.5 million troops and 540,000 casualties? Should it be called a campaign?

This list already produces an article twice the size of that recommended by Wikipedia; and, having tabulated sections 0-9 and A to C, I realise it is but a small fraction of the size it might be. It needs to be broken up into separate lists, either alphabetically, by country, by concern or by some other method. Regards, David Kernow 19:50, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not sure if it needs expanding – or, more seriously, whether it isn't inherently too subjective/POV or covered elsewhere (see Talk:List of profane words). David Kernow 10:06, 4 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Cultural history of the United States. This article was nominated as a collaboration of the week in August 2005, but I'm not sure what happened to it since then. I don't see any reason that this article should be a stub, as there is a wealth of information. This page has "featured article" written all over it, or it will just as soon as someone writes something on it. Isopropyl 02:22, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I removed stubs and just called this page a disambiguation page, because I thought it would be hard to describe all of the culture of the United States in one article. I believe that having links to all the separate aspects of "culture" is the best way to accomplish the goal. J. Finkelstein 05:53, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • 405 (movie) Movie recieved a lot of attention when it was released online in 2000 and probably has historical significance as an early example of personal computers being used to create movies that had effects comparable to Hollywood films. Probably hasn't been in Wikipedia because it was popular just before Wikipedia itself started.
  • Zay N. Smith This article is too lopsided in favor of Smith's most recent work. The guy has been in the business for several decades, and it would be nice to have more info about his earlier accomplishments. Zagalejo 20:03, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just following orders This is an interesting section of military law which Wikipedia could use more coverage of. If I'm wrong, please let me know where I can find Wikipedia articles on this subject. ComputerSherpa 19:39, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Read or Dream This series was mistakeningly marked as a redirect to Read or Die but is its own series. I've started the page but it really needs help with the plot summary and character descriptions for as they were in the manga. It also just needs a lot of work since it was just started after being mistakeningly overlooked for a time.Ryokosha 00:25, 3 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • The U.S. state of WEST VIRGINIA is the current U.S. Collaboration of the Week and is in need of contributors due to its severe lack of information. The following categories of the article need expansion: Geography, Geology, Climate, Flora, Economy, and Culture. Let's bring West Virginia's article up to code with the rest of the fifty states! • William Gargan Filmology stops at 3 films, he was in dozens.
  • Tironut, the Israel Defense Forces basic training - fairly long, but not nearly complete, especially the certification list. I agree that it's not an article of worldwide importance, but anyone who has been to the IDF will be able to expand it, which applies to most Israeli Wikipedians. -- Ynhockey 10:39, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

  • Military: Linked to many, many times, and it's a rather important concept, but the article is somewhat anemic. If someone could simply cut-n-paste in material from other pages (military science, military service, etc.) and organize it, at least that would be something. (Many military-related concepts, such as theater (military) and military geography are mostly substubs though.) I've done a little of that, but I'm really not too interested in the topic, being a Quaker. Some military enthusiast want to help? – Quadell (talk) (sleuth) June 30, 2005 18:48 (UTC)
Should theater (military) be merged into military geography? Jaberwocky6669 June 30, 2005 19:35 (UTC)
  • Mein System: I've just about exhausted my knowledge of this book here. Could someone with more chess knowledge then me please expand the article as per its todo list? — Bcat (talk | email) 30 June 2005 02:08 (UTC)
  • The Innocence Mission Excellent band but needs more info than what I can add to it. My fav band but I dunno crap about them... Jaberwocky6669 June 28, 2005 03:55 (UTC)
  • George Sakier -- apparently one of the Art Deco biggies, but more research needs to be done. --Ctrl buildtalk File:Columbia SEAS.GIF 22:01, 25 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • 9_Queens_(film) needs to be expanded to include the 2004-2005 movie "Criminal" - which doesn't have a wikipage. From what I am briefly reading at the IMDB website is that the only thing different is the location of the storyline. So whoever expands the 9 queens film probably should make a disambiguation page over at Criminal since it is also a movie title. Thanks! --x1987x 01:24, Jun 25, 2005 (UTC)
  • John Denver - It looks terrible, and has little information on Denver. Carolaman 21:39, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Flowing Combat - reads like an advert for a martial arts school, needs to be expanded to provide information about the system, and put into a more npov --195.92.70.130 09:21, 24 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Picketing - no history at all basically just a few paragraphs to describe the activity. Dalf | Talk 21:09, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Vampire: The Dark Ages - A role-playing game that lacks the attention of his older brother (Vampire: The Masquerade). Needs a comparison of both and much filling in details of the setting. --Pablo D. Flores 13:44, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Applied anthropology - A subfield, but needs considerable elaboration Bruxism 00:43, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Roy Lichtenstein - This article is a good start but needs much expansion. Gamaliel 16:20, 22 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Mercurochrome - This article needs to describe antiseptic properties, actual mercury content, chance of mercury poisioning, bias, chemical creation, popularity (US and external). --x1987x 20:35, Jun 21, 2005 (UTC)
  • Gerrymandering - Article needs some more examples from non US places, as well as more scientific analysis. Scott Ritchie 09:31, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Alfonso Sastre - This article about the Spanish playwright has a very good spanish wikipedia entry, but i just had to start the english one. so far i've done some translating, but I've also been adding new material from a biography and critical analysis from a copy of one of his plays. Someone already put a link to a babelfish translation so you don't even have to speak spanish to help. Finally, I would like to see more analysis of the themes in his plays; the biography is already pretty well developed. --Comrade009 23:57, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Fractal antenna - This is a very new and very strange antenna design that is particularly applicable to broadband transmission such as IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi). Since the Wireless community network boom is still going strong, I'm sure there are lots of other hobbyists like me salivating over this. What we really want to know is how do we make our own?--Yannick 23:50, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Century Institute - An interesting, short-lived experiment in training progressives (think "bizarro Hertiage Foundation") that seems to be on temproary hiatus. Faculty included William Julius Wilson, Arthur Schlesinger Jr. and Theodore C. Sorensen. Anyone who knows more about the program, it context or its faculty should please add more.
  • Psychodynamic Psychotherapy - When i found this article it was pretty much "much like psychoanalysis but shorter and they don't sit on a couch". Added some, but needs more. Lots more. JoeSmack (talk) 16:11, Jun 17, 2005 (UTC)
  • Influences on the Spanish language - New article, covers formative influences and Native American borrowings, but not modern borrowings from European languages. See talk page. --Pablo D. Flores
  • Living Sacrifice - This is probably the most respected Christian Metal abdn form the 90's, adn it is still extremely respected. It should hvae pictures, discogrpahy, info on its Greatest Hits and Tribute Album.
  • Eureka College - While not a large school, it is still important historically as the first college in Illinois and the third in the nation to admit men and women on an equal basis. Eureka has also just celebrated its 150th birthday. If anyone can add to the page, it would be appreciated, as I don't have the time to do the entire article...nor do I want to do the entire article, as it would then be biased my way.
  • Children of the Drone - newcomers have no idea actually what Children of the Drone is - need more clear explanation on the matter. CrossTimer 07:49, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Smart(fx) - I can't find any information on it. Needs to be drastically expanded.
  • In the Simple English section the stub article could be improved - (and various articles in the main English encyclopedia could be "translated").
  • Dr Syn could do with a bit of expansion (eg mentioning the highwayman who appears in several volumes) - and the first written book in the series is actually the last in the series.
  • Education in Argentina - major topic, not covered at all in the main Argentina article. I've done all I could already... --Pablo D. Flores

  • Molotschnaya River - a real river in Ukraine, though not a real town. Don't know enough about it to expand further than <blah> is a river in Ukraine... -- Francs2000 | Talk [[]] 02:11, 13 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Celestial Mechanics - The Examples of Problems should have more detail, I think. --User:Ben Standeven 21:28, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Convention People's Party - The article of the most important political party in Ghanaian history includes only the latest election results. --Sesel 03:08, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Katie Brownell - 11 year old Little Leaguer known for her amazing strike-out feat. The story may be a short one, but it's not yet over. I don't know how to follow all the details (searching for her yields mostly older news stories, not newer ones), but I think she's worth expanding on, even if her fame is only fleeting. --CGally81 00:28, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • United States Penitentiary, Leavenworth - more on history, current status, famous inmates, etc would make this a much better article. Right now, it's too long to be a stub, but not complete yet.
