Pandit Falguni Mitra is a reputed and erudite Hindustani classical vocalist who is known as a Dhrupad exponent of India[1][2]. Pandit Mitra belongs to the Bettiah Benares gharana.[3]

Early life

Pandit Mitra was initiated early into music by his father, Sangeetacharya Shib Mitra, at the age of five, who was himself trained under the tutelage of Pandit Bholanath Pathak of Varanasi.[4]

Education and management

Pandit Mitra earned a Masters degree from St. Xaviers College Kolkata. He had a career in management with a multinational,[specify] following in the footsteps of his father. He also pursued music to an extent to be soon recognized in his own style of Dhrupad rendition,[by whom?] across Indian and other subcontinents.

He was the Guru and Prefect of ITC Sangeet Research Academy, Kolkala, 1999 - 2010[5]

Singing career

Initially trained in the Dagar alaap style, Mitra is a performer in the Indian Music University circuit. He is known for his mastery in the Dhrupad style of the Betia Banaras Gharana,[by whom?] . The Gharana is also known as the most authentic form of Hindustani classical music,[by whom?] and he has been critically acclaimed over the last 50 years [by whom?].
