Rashid Adewumi Aderinoye (born October 9, 1950) is a Professor of Literacy and Open Distance Learning,[1] Department of Adult Education, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria.[2] He was the Deputy Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and Executive Secretary, National Commission for Nomadic Education (NCNE) and Secretary Ministerial Committee on Madrasah Education. He is the current Head of Department, Department of Adult Education, University of Ibadan, Ibadan, Nigeria.[3]

Early life and education
Rashid Adewumi Aderinoye is from Ifetedo Local Government, Osun State, Nigeria.[4] He started his education at the Ansar-ur-Deen Primary School, Ifetedo and the then Local Authority Modern School. He later attended Ansar-ur-Deen Teacher Training College, Ota, where he obtained the Grade II Teacher Certificate. He started his teaching career at Opeyeka Primary School in Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State in September 1973. He later passed the General Certificate of Education at both Ordinary and Advanced levels in 1976 and 1978 respectively. He proceeded to the Premier University of Ibadan from 1979-1982 for his Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree in Adult Education and Islamic Studies. He returned to the same university after the mandatory one year Youth Service for his Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in 1984 and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) in 1992.
Career
He joined the academic staff of the Department of Adult Education, University of Ibadan on 23 June 1993 as Lecturer II, was promoted to Lecturer Grade 1 in 1996, Senior Lecturer in 1999, Reader in 2003, and Professor in 2007. He presented the University Inaugural Lecture in on 5th July, 2018.[5] As an academic, he has conducted many research studies individually and jointly with colleagues in and outside the Department.
He has served in different capacities outside the university which includes UNESCO on sabbatical HIV/AIDS Preventive Education Program Officer 2000-2003.
External examiner and Assessor of academic staff to the rank of reader and professor to the University of Port Harcourt; University of Nigeria, Nsukka; Bayero University, Kano; Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba; Usman Dan Fodio University, Sokoto; University of Calabar; University of Abuja, and Ibrahim Babangida University, Lapai. He has also served in this capacity in some universities outside Nigeria. They are: University of Ghana, Legon; Fourah-Bay College, Sierra-Leone; and University of Malaysia. He equally served as review editor to the International Journal of Review of Research in Open and Distance Learning (IRRODL) between 1998 and 2003. Consultant to UNESCO on Republic of Sudan Basic Education Study Analysis 2001-2002, World Bank Consultant on status of ICT utilisation in Nigeria 2005 and UNESCO Literacy Assessment Practices 2006.
He has served in government in various capacities: he was a member of defunct Oyo State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, 1986-89; Osun State Pilgrims Welfare Board, 1994-1996. He was appointed Deputy Executive Secretary, Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) from 2010 to 2013[6] and Executive Secretary, National Commission for Nomadic Education (NCNE) from 2014 to 2016.[7] Secretary Ministerial Committee on Madrasah Education 2010-2014.[8]
He is a member of professional associations and community-based organisations, including Nigerian National Council for Adult Education (NNCAE), Ifetedo Progressive Union (IPU), Society for International Development (SID), and Nigerian Academy of Education (NAE), among others.
Aderinoye is an expert on literacy education. [9]A book titled "Literacy for sustainable development in a knowledge economy" was written in his honour and edited by some of his PhD students.
