Life
Schily was born as the daughter of lawyer and politician Otto Schily and his first wife, the painter Christiane Schily[2] née Hellwag. She received the first name Jenny in reference to Jenny Marx and the middle name Rosa which refers to Rosa Luxemburg.[3] She is the great-granddaughter of the architect Bruno Taut.[4] After studying Slavic studies,[2] which was broken off after two semesters, she completed training in acting from 1991 to 1995 at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts in Berlin.[5] Her first engagement took her to the Staatsschauspiel Dresden, where she made her debut in the title role in Emilia Galotti. Then she was at the Schauspiel Frankfurt and a member of the ensemble at the Theater am Turm. From 2002 to 2006 she was engaged at the Schaubühne am Lehniner Platz in Berlin, in 2010 and 2011 at the Maxim Gorki Theater.
Schily had her first major television role in 1996 in the film adaptation of the life story of Roy Black named Du bist nicht allein – Die Roy Black Story as his wife Silke. An important film work was The Legend of Rita, directed by Volker Schlöndorff.
