Thanks a lot. I hope to make a significant addition. I've spread the word of Wiki to my regional skeptical group which has its fair share of very intelligent people. I hope some of them pay a visit and stay as well. TimothyPilgrim 03:34, Feb 21, 2004 (UTC)

Lord Love a Duck

Google lord-love-a-duck and you'll get a lot of comments and opinions. I don't know the origin but if I had to guess I would think it was a Victorian era Britishism. The phrase was still fairly current in the 1950s and '60s though not an everyday oath.

I note one site thinks it is a substitute for an obscenity, others tag it an expression of suprise. I agree with the latter, but think it may have originally been one of the myriad of phrases for those who didn't want to use "God's name in vain" or utter a curse. That is, "Lord love a duck, she's a beauty" instead of "I'll be damned, she's a beauty" or "God, what a beauty."

A study of the use of the use of vulgar (in the common sense) language is fascinating. It comes to mind that Dickens, in Great Expectations, has an old and profane sailor exclaiming a then common and potent oath over and over. Dickens (as Pip, the narrator) has the character yelling bitter phrases liberally sprinkled with "bless your eyes" but informs the reader that these weren't really the words the old sea dog was saying. -- Cecropia | Talk 17:18, 6 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Sciatica

Though i was not the one who added acupuncture as the treatment method, but the fact remains it is an effective treatment method. This comes from someone who has seen it first hand. So I dont think that the removal was appropiate. vogon77 02:52, Oct 28, 2004 (UTC)

I've moved this to Talk:Sciatica. TimothyPilgrim 13:05, Oct 28, 2004 (UTC)

liter/litre->L

We've been replacing liter and litre in auto articles with  L to conform with scientific unit standards and to avoid confusion/localization disputes over which form to use. The nbsp looks nicer than just space since it keeps the unit with the number over line breaks... Hope this helps! --SFoskett 19:09, Dec 7, 2004 (UTC)

Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

Spider-Man

Hello. :) Since you have been involved in editing the article Spider-Man, I wanted to let you know that we have nominated the article for "Good Article" status. You can view the review page, and if there is anything you can do to make the article better, please do so. :) There are a number of concerns to be addressed and some work to be done, so pitch in if you are able, make any suggestions that you think might be helpful, or at least just be there for moral support. :) BOZ (talk) 01:32, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Message regarding your use of the No Multi License Template

In case you are not aware, the Wikimedia Foundation has proposed that the copyright licensing terms on the wikis operated by the WMF – including Wikipedia – be changed to include the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike (CC-BY-SA) license in addition to the current GNU Free Documentation License (GFDL) as allowed by version 1.3 of the GFDL. The community has approved this change with 75.8% in favor, and on June 15, 2009, the change will take effect.
You currently have NoMultiLicense on your user or user talk page, which states that your edits are licensed under the GFDL only. On or before June 15, this template will be changed to reflect Wikipedia's new licensing terms. If you accept the licensing change, you do not need to do anything (and feel free to remove this message); if you do not accept it, we regret that you will no longer be able to contribute to the encyclopedia. Please join the discussion at Wikipedia:Village pump (policy)#NoMultiLicense template if you have any comments.

A tag has been placed on Eddie James (motorcyclist) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles - see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding hangon to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. RadioFan (talk) 15:57, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

 • If you disagree with the deletion, you need to do so on the article's talk page. Your comments here are not likely to be read by the admin who reviews the article. See the instructions above.--RadioFan (talk) 16:15, 9 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An article that you have been involved in editing, Eddie James (motorcyclist), has been listed for deletion. If you are interested in the deletion discussion, please participate by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Eddie James (motorcyclist). Thank you.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Dbratland (talk) 18:29, 10 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Eddie James (motorcyclist). We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Eddie James (motorcyclist). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:12, 11 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of American Society of Questioned Document Examiners, and it appears to include material copied directly from http://www.asqde.org/about_history.htm.

It is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article. The article will be reviewed to determine if there are any copyright issues.

If substantial content is duplicated and it is not public domain or available under a compatible license, it will be deleted. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use such publications as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. See our copyright policy for further details. Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 19:31, 15 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited QuebecAir Flight 321, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Hijacking (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Nomination of QuebecAir Flight 321 for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article QuebecAir Flight 321 is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/QuebecAir Flight 321 until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. Henry Morgentaler

Hi there - you added Dr. Henry Morgentaler to the List of people from Ontario, but my recollection was that he was based in Montreal, which is corroborated by our article about him. He certainly had opened a clinic in Toronto (and another city or two in the west), but his home base was in or near Montreal. He is listed in List of people from Montreal already. I haven't undone your edit - I wanted to write this to you first, in case you had a reference that says he relocated out of Quebec. Regards, PKT(alk) 17:13, 1 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

 • Thank-you, that's a fair point. I guess when I was in Toronto, I associated him with that city, though I can see now his presence in Montreal was greater. Ways to improve Jonathan Pitre

Hi, I'm Barkeep49. TimothyPilgrim, thanks for creating Jonathan Pitre!

Invitation to WikiProject Portals

The Portals WikiProject has been rebooted.

There are sections on the WikiProject page dedicated to tasks (including WikiGnome tasks too), and areas on the talk page for discussing the improvement and automation of the various features of portals.

There's a watchlist, of all the pages in the portal namespace, for viewing Related changes.

And more.

You are invited to join, and participate in the effort to revitalize and improve the Portal system and all the portals in it.

We may even surprise ourselves and exceed all expectations. Who knows what we will be able to accomplish in what may become the biggest Wikicollaboration in years.

See ya at the WikiProject!

Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   14:51, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much

The RfC discussion to eliminate portals was closed May 12, with the statement "There exists a strong consensus against deleting or even deprecating portals at this time." This was made possible because you and others came to the rescue. Thank you for speaking up.

By the way, the current issue of the Signpost features an article with interviews about the RfC and the Portals WikiProject.

I'd also like to let you know that the Portals WikiProject is working hard to make sure your support of portals was not in vain. Toward that end, we have been working diligently to innovate portals, while building, updating, upgrading, and maintaining them. The project has grown to 80 members so far, and has become a beehive of activity.

Our two main goals at this time are to automate portals (in terms of refreshing, rotating, and selecting content), and to develop a one-page model in order to make obsolete and eliminate most of the 150,000 subpages from the portal namespace by migrating their functions to the portal base pages, using technologies such as selective transclusion. Please feel free to join in on any of the many threads of development at the WikiProject's talk page, or just stop by to see how we are doing. If you have any questions about portals or portal development, that is the best place to ask them.

If you would like to keep abreast of developments on portals, keep in mind that the project's members receive updates on their talk pages. The updates are also posted here, for your convenience.

Again, we can't thank you enough for your support of portals, and we hope to make you proud of your decision. Sincerely,    — The Transhumanist   23:02, 25 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

P.S.: if you reply to this message, please ping me. Thank you. -TT

Tacoma

Thank you for correcting the lengths of the Toyota Tacoma. However, if somebody wanted to double check this in a couple of years time then a reference in an old edit summary is unlikely to be found and is therefore unverifiable. Hi there, I'm HasteurBot. I just wanted to let you know that Draft:Shawn James, a page you created, has not been edited in 5 months. The Articles for Creation space is not an indefinite storage location for content that is not appropriate for articlespace.

If your submission is not edited soon, it could be nominated for deletion. If you would like to attempt to save it, you will need to improve it.

You may request Userfication of the content if it meets requirements.

If the deletion has already occured, instructions on how you may be able to retrieve it are available at WP:REFUND/G13.

Thank you for your attention. HasteurBot (talk) 23:28, 19 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Your draft article, Draft:Shawn James

Hello, TimothyPilgrim. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or Draft page you started, "Shawn James".

An article you recently created, European Network of Forensic Science Institutes, has no sources except its own website, and without 3rd party sources cannot remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Freemasonry in Canada, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page French. Such links are usually incorrect, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of unrelated topics with similar titles. (Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.)

It's OK to remove this message. Also, to stop receiving these messages, follow these opt-out instructions. Thanks, DPL bot (talk) 06:11, 25 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Block message:

Autoblocked because your IP address was recently used by "OtoBocComg". The reason given for OtoBocComg's block is: " Your account has been indefinitely blocked from editing because of the following problems: the account has been used for advertising or promotion, which is contrary to the purpose of Wikipedia, and your username indicates that the account represents a business, organisation, group, or web site, which is against the username policy. You may request a change of username and unblock if you intend to make useful contributions instead of promoting your business or organization. To do this, first search Special:CentralAuth for available usernames that comply with the username policy. Once you have found an acceptable username, post the text Your proposed new username at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your proposed new username" with your new username and replace the text "Your reason here" with your reasons to be unblocked. In your reasons, you must: Disclose any compensation you may receive for your contributions in accordance with the Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure requirement. Convince us that you understand the reason for your block and that you will not repeat the kind of edits for which you were blocked. Describe in general terms the contributions that you intend to make if you are unblocked. Appeals: If, after reviewing the guide to appealing blocks, you believe this block was made in error, you may appeal it by adding the text Your reason here at the bottom of your talk page. Replace the text "Your reason here" with the reasons you believe the block was an error, and publish the page. ".

Decline reason: Looks like that autoblock has expired. --jpgordon𝄢𝄆𝄐𝄇 14:59, 26 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]
