Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain (Template:Lang-ar; born in Kuwait in 1936)[citation needed] is a Kuwaiti poet and businessman who entered the history of Arab and international cultures from its widest doors. His ambition and perseverance helped him overcome many obstacles and challenges. He worked hard to educate himself and to develop his futuristic cultural views. He now stands as a great historic figure not only in the Arabic culture, but also globally.
He is currently the Head of the Albabtain Foundation for Poetic Creativity.
Abdulaziz Albabtain has spent most of his life to disseminate the Arabic language, to make it present alongside other international languages.
He introduced the Arabic culture and history to the world by shedding light on its civilized aspects.
Current efforts
He has established the Albabtain Central Library for Arabic poetry,.[1]
In 2004 he established the Albabtain Translation Center[2] to support translations into and from Arabic.
The Al-Babtain Foundation for Poetic Creativity called in January 2016 for contributions to an Arabic epic on themes of peace, tolerance and love.[3]
Since 2016, Al-Babtain has also endowed the Abdulaziz Saud AlBabtain Laudian Professorship in Arabic in the Faculty of Oriental Studies at the University of Oxford. Formerly known as the Laudian Chair in Arabic, it was first endowed in 1636 by Archbishop William Laud and is one of the oldest Chairs of Arabic in Europe. [4]
Short Biography
When young, Abdulaziz Saud Albabtain was a passionate reader of Arab poetry and was greatly inspired by great Arab poets. He worked at the Ministry of Education in Kuwait from 1955 until 1962, when he resigned to pursue an entrepreneurial career path and eventually became one of the most prominent businessmen in the country. His poems have been published in several Kuwaiti newspapers and magazines as well as in other Arab and foreign countries.
His first book Bauh Al-Bawadi (Intimations of the Desert) was published in 1995, with a second collection, Musafir fi Al-Qifar (Wastefarer), in 2004. His third collection of poems, Oghniat Al- Feyefi (The Songs of the Deserts), was published in 2018. The first two books were translated into English, French, Italian, Spanish and Polish. In 2017 he published “Contemplations for Peace” which is a heartfelt cry for all of mankind to embrace peace as a value, a goal and a way of life. It was translated into English.
