The Logitech MX Revolution is a wireless, laser mouse manufactured by Logitech and released in 2006. The MX Revolution is the first mouse to feature a free-spinning scroll wheel, which allows continuous scrolling for several seconds with a single user action. The Logitech VX Revolution is an equivalent product intended for laptop use.

Features

The MX Revolution and VX revolution are wireless, USB 2.0 mouses which operate on the 2.4 GHz band with an operating range of 20 - 30 ft. The mouse is powered from a non-removable, rechargeable Lithium battery. The optical sensor employs a small infrared laser with an advertised sensitivity of 800 dpi.

The most significant new feature of the MX Revolution is the "hyper-scrolling" scroll-wheel. The method of scroll-wheel operation may be toggled between conventional line-by-line scrolling and near frictionless "hyper-scrolling" by clicking the scroll wheel. Included software may be used to customize operation that ties specific applications to a particular mode of scroll wheel operation. The free-spinning scroll wheel employs a 14-gram metal flywheel which can spin continuously for up to seven seconds with a single user action.[1] Other new features include single-button web search, a document quick-flip side wheel, and ergonomic enhancements. The mouse has a total of seven buttons, all of them programmable except for the right and left click.

Marketing

The MX Revolution is marketed as a general purpose mouse, a product refresh for the Logitech MX1000. The MX revolution is not marketed as a replacement for the Logitech G7, Logitech's gaming mouse. The first suggested retail price ($99) suggests that the MX Revolution is targeted towards enthusiasts and early adopters. Logitech's marketing campaign touts the Revolution as the "World's Most Advanced Mouse." It is not targeted to be a high selling mouse because of its high price.

Main Complaints

Overall, the mouse has been accepted by those who by it, but there are complaints. One of the main complaints is that the mouse has a relatively poor ergonomic design. It also uses a high amount of power to operate and must be either turned off after use or recharged constantly.[2]
