Brandon Blackwell (born 1993/1994) is an American professional quizzer and television personality.
Life and career
Blackwell went to elementary school on Long Island and later attended the Bronx High School of Science.[1] His mother teaches middle school, and his father is an insurance adjuster.[1] He earned his undergraduate degree in computer science from New York University.[1] Before moving to London, he won about US$400,000 from quiz shows, including the Jeopardy! Teen Tournament (US$10,000), Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (US$43,100), and The Million Second Quiz (runner-up) in 2013.[1][2]
Blackwell saw London as "the epicenter" of high-level quizzing and sought to win University Challenge, an institution of British quiz television featuring UK college students.[1] He applied and was accepted into Imperial College London and intensely taught himself British history, using Wikipedia, flash cards, and old episodes of University Challenge.[1]
