Lifeboat Page updates

@GoingBatty

Hi. When I saw the number of edits this morning, I was wondering what I'd done wrong! However, they are all very restrained, and perfectly acceptable, so just wanted to say thanks in one go, rather than thank each entry.

I'm on a mission to complete pages for all lifeboat stations, so use a regular format, which for instance includes External links. I sometimes hope someone will find some! I've created over 150 pages this year, so errors do creep in when you start to get cross-eyed.

Best wishes. Martin Ojsyork (talk) 08:15, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Ojsyork: I presume you're referring to BattyBot's recent run to remove empty External links sections from multiple articles about lifeboats. Keep up the good work with your article creation! GoingBatty (talk) 16:53, 6 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Boocooe (22:26, 11 December 2024)

How do I add a gradient to my name? I saw a person do it when I was editing, and I thought it would be a great addition! --Boocooe (talk) 22:26, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@Boocooe: I didn't know the answer, so I went to Wikipedia:Signatures which took me to Wikipedia:Signature tutorial. You can view the source of that page to see how User:Darcyisverycute customized their signature to include a rotation. Happy editing! GoingBatty (talk) 23:45, 11 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question from Knightking111087 (04:53, 14 December 2024)

U tried making edits and it kicked me out --Knightking111087 (talk) 04:53, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Stop vandalizing articles. win8x (talk) 04:54, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Knightking111087 and @Win8x: I don't understand what you're referring to. Please elaborate. GoingBatty (talk) 04:55, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry for that, GoingBatty. This user is being prevented ("kicked him out") from editing articles due to edit filters. I had warned them on their talk page and saw them ask you here for help. win8x (talk) 04:57, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Win8x: Thanks for letting me know. I wasn't sure whether you were accusing this user or me of vandalism. GoingBatty (talk) 05:25, 14 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Batty Bot breaks sfn refs

Hi, here the bot broke the sfn references "Writer 1935" and "Writer 1996" by changing the surname in the source citation templates. Is there any way to stop it doing this? DuncanHill (talk) 12:28, 18 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@DuncanHill: It looks like my bot fixed the incorrect parameters |last=Writer|first=Staff and you kindly made the other half to fix the associated {{sfn}} template. I've updated the bot so that it will ignore articles with {{sfn}}. There will need to be some other process to fix those articles with incorrect citation parameters. Thanks for letting me know! GoingBatty (talk) 19:58, 18 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ridiculopathy: Pinging you since you created the article. GoingBatty (talk) 19:58, 18 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, sorry if it broke something. So I understand now that the following is the best way to cite articles with no named author:
  • {{cite journal |author = Staff Writer|title = Ballyknockan Listed Building Knocked| journal = Archaeology Ireland|.... etc
and not:
  • {{cite journal |last = Writer| first = Staff|title = Ballyknockan Listed Building Knocked| journal = Archaeology Ireland|.... etc.
Regards, Ridiculopathy (talk) 06:37, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
@Ridiculopathy: I don't know that using "Staff Writer" when the source doesn't use those specific words is appropriate. But |last=Writer |first=Staff is not appropriate. GoingBatty (talk) 06:47, 19 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]
