Romig Middle School
Romig Middle School is a middle school located in Anchorage, Alaska. It is one of the larger schools in the district, and services the Spenard and Turnagain areas. The school was established in 1966 by the Anchorage School District, and is named after missionary, doctor, and former Anchorage mayor Joseph H. Romig.

Demographics
Romig is one of the most ethnically diverse schools in the district. 54% of the students are minorities, leaving there no ethnic majority. Though white students are the plurality at 46%, the school is 15% Asian or Pacific Islander, 15% Native American or Alaska Native, 12% Hispanic, 7% Black, and 5% multi-ethnic. [2]
Academics
Students at Romig are assigned to year-long core classes at the beginning of the year. These classes include standard 7th and 8th grade math, science, language arts, and social studies. They also include ESL courses, special needs courses, native education courses, gifted science and language arts, Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. Students also sign up for elective classes on a semester basis, but generally receive quarter credit. However, classes in band, orchestra, or a foreign language are year-long classes.

The school is divided into teams, with there being four 7th grade teams, four 8th grade teams, one 7-8th grade team, one indian education team, and one ESL (English as a second language) team. The team names are changed every two years. The team names currently are all named after rivers.
