Tommy Boy Records was started in 1981 by Tom Silverman after borrowing $5000 from his parents. In 1985 Warner Bros. bought 50% from his label, but he bought his share back in 1996.

In 1995 he created a joint venture Penalty Records with Neil Levine and Tommy Gospel Records was launched recently.

The list includes both current and former Tommy Boy recording artists.
