the Ganges below Gangotri

Harsil is the village on the banks of Bhagirathi River on way to Gangotri in the District of Uttar Kashi in the Uttarakhand state of India. Here the Idol of Ganga Mai (the goddess of river Ganges) is kept after the Diwali for the winter season as the area of Gangotri is snow bound during this period.
