Cory Baxter is a fictional character played by Kyle Massey on comedy television series That's So Raven and the spin off Cory in the House. Both shows appear regularly on the Disney Channel.

Character Information

Cory Baxter is the younger sibling of Raven Baxter, and the son of Tanya and Victor Baxter. Cory aspires to be wealthy, and loves money. He is trilingual, being able to speak Japanese and Spanish, and can juggle, but this has never been further explored. Cory is said to be the richest Baxter, even having more money than Victor. An entrepreneur, Cory has started many business ventures with his friends Larry (David Henrie) and William (Frankie Ryan Manriquez). Larry and William were also members of Cory's band, Cory and the Boyz. Con-artist Stanley (Bobb'e J. Thompson) is more Cory's rival than friend, but the two team up on occasion, usually to make money. Stanley loves money, just like Cory.

He had a "What's Disgusting About Raven" file in his room. As the name implies, it is a small collection of small notes telling disgusting truths about Raven. Cory never reveals how he got hold of the facts and it is only mentioned in one episode, Ye Olde Dating Game. The facts are listed alphabetically, by date, by location, and by body part. There is also a running gag that Cory has a big head.

It is revealed in the Cory in the House pilot episode The New Kid in Town that he is also afraid of horses (he even threw up while riding a merry-go-round).

Initially, Cory had a crush on Raven's best friend Chelsea Daniels (Anneliese van der Pol), but nothing came of it. Eventually, Cory dates a girl in his class named Cindy (Jordyn Coleman), and often asks Cindy's best friend, Madison (Rhyon Nicole Brown), for romantic advice.

Cory once lived in San Francisco, but once his father Victor was hired to be the White House Chef, he moved to Washington, D.C. Tanya was studying law in England, and Raven went to design school. While there, he ends up having a crush on Meena Paroom. Also, Cory has some similarities to Lizzie McGuire. Matt McGuire is obsessed with money and blackmailing his sister like Cory, and also Matt had a crush on his sister's best friend, Miranda Sanchez, and Cory had a crush on Chelsea Daniels.

Cory also has a pet rat named Lionel which Cory loves very much

After Raven went to design school (and Eddie and Chelsea in college), Cory's father, Victor Baxter, becomes the new White House chef which makes him very wealthy.. In Washington, D.C., Cory befriends Newt Livingston and Meena Paroom, and meets a Stanley-esque Sophie Martinez, who is the President's 8-year-old daughter. Cory is noticeably more mature in Cory in the House, using more common slang terms, though he's grown to be much like his sister.

Like Raven, Cory's voice takes on a higher pitch when he tries to cover up a lie, and he'll often say "Well, you know how I do," to impress a girl. Still, Cory considers himself an entrepreneur, and when he meets someone in the White House, he will often say "Cory Baxter, American businessman."

Regardless of his new maturity, Cory will often say "Coming, Daddy!" as an excuse for leaving a troublesome situation. On one occasion he used that phrase after recovering from a fall. Whenever he's in a bad situation, Cory will say "Dang!", much like Raven would use "Oh, snap!"

Also like Raven, Cory often finds himself in situations where he is trying to stop something from happening, even though he is not psychic like Raven. While Cory has a crush on Meena (and is harassed by Jason Stickler because of it), he started a band with Newt and Meena called DC3 (much like his band Cory in the Boyz back in San Francisco). While some say that Cory's first kiss is with Meena, he did in fact kiss his old girlfriend Cindy back in San Francisco. He doesn't even kiss Meena as they just see each other as Friends

Similarities between Cory in the House & That's So Raven

In Cory in the House:

  • There is a great similarity to creating strange or weird problems much like his sister except that there is no psychic issues, so that the problems are usually much more of surprise for Cory, and he does not often get into trouble trying to fix foreseen trouble .
  • He is prone to creating wacky business schemes (similar to Raven's scheming) and then messing up a situation.
  • Sophie and Stanley are really the same in Cory's life.

Stanley likes to scheme Cory into buying his stuff and with Sophie she likes to make his life a mess. It's like they have evil minds, but Sophie and Stanley help him sometimes even if they get him into trouble.

  • Cory has a love interest in Meena, while Raven ends up being fascinated with Eddie and a few other boyfriends.
  • Jason Stickler is obsessed with Meena and doesn't get that she doesn't like him, so he constantly spies on her, and her friends and family. Loca likes Eddie and doesn't get that he doesn't like her so she always hits him when she sees him.
  • Jason Stickler tries to stop Meena from ending up with Cory. Similarly Loca likes Eddie and in the episode when Raven and Eddie go to the dance, she stops them and dances with Eddie.
  • Raven is prone to introducing herself as a' Designer' and Cory likes to introduce himself as a Businessman. Both kids early in the series are not really successful at either. Raven however does become a designer eventually.

As for Cory, he is still young, and not old enough to become a businessman for awhile.
