"Gang War" my foot
The Wikipedia "encyclopedia" contains some of the most absurd and weirdest comments ever made in all of history. Some idiot has written that a "gang war" involving "black" gangsters existed in New York in the 1920s. That is a crazy statement. Negroes were shoe-shine boys, janitors, chauffeurs, porters, and servants in New York City, not gangsters. Superslum 17:33, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
- Numbers of people
- 3,437,202 in 1900
- 4,766,883 in 1910
- 5,621,151 in 1920
In 1910, the negro population numbered 91,709, which was less than two percent of the total population of the city. In 1920 and 1930 the negro population of New York City remained at about two percent of the total population of the city.
- Colored people were mopping floors in New York City in the 1920s and the 1930s. They weren't running amok engaging in a gang war with Jews and Italians. Any person who claims that the colored people of New York City were gangsters who battled Jews and Italians is speaking propaganda and lies. Superslum 13:03, 11 June 2006 (UTC)
Article Broken
...I was attempting to access a description of the *film* Hoodlum, and received no disambiguation/link options from this article. Had to find the stub by a roundabout way.
Since that Superslum fellow seems to have wandered off (or got back on his meds, whatever) it may be safe to revert/restore at this point without getting in an edit war. Just sayin'.
