Ginger A. Reyes (also known as Ginger Sling) born in Chicago, Illinois is an American rock musician, and is the bassist and a backing vocalist for the reformed Chicago alternative rock band The Smashing Pumpkins.[1] She is also a solo artist, and was a bassist of the California pop-punk band the Halo Friendlies.[2]
Early career
Reyes has had a long musical career, playing in bands and writing songs since her freshman year in high school. Her first band was The Israelites, a Christian ska band from La Crescenta, California. She was a member of California. She later replaced Cheryl Hecht as the bassist for the all girl pop-punk band the Halo Friendlies.
The Smashing Pumpkins
On April 6, 2007 rock rumor website Buddyhead reported that Ginger Reyes was the new bassist for The Smashing Pumpkins,[3] replacing former bassists D'arcy Wretzky and Melissa Auf der Maur, in the new line-up. It was confirmed she was a member of the band when they played their first show on May 22, 2007 at Le Grand Rex in Paris, France.[4] Although she has remained in the touring lineup, she has yet to contribute to a released Pumpkins recording. Band frontman Billy Corgan performed the bass parts on Zeitgeist and the 2008 EP American Gothic, the latter of which was recorded after Reyes joined.
