October 16 - Quotes or multimedia related to the books: The Nameless Novel site gave out a list of phrases that had the initials V.F.D., but had 'The Dastardly Denouement' as an odd one out on the third column. This could be a red herring sent out by HarperCollins.

On TheNamelessNovel.com there are a few slight hints peppered around the site. As usual, it is impossible to tell for sure what is a hint and what isn't, but it appears that Mr. Poe will turn out to either be a villain or a volunteer. Mr. Poe is likely to be a member of V.F.D. because The Bad Beginning indicates that Mr. Poe was a friend of the Baudelaires' parents who were in fact part of V.F.D. This is seeming increasingly likely because of the chapter in the Unauthorized Autobiography which is called (before Lemony Snicket's rewrite): "Why is Mr. Poe so unhelpful?" Evidence of this theory is that on July 28th, the directions for the puzzle was to describe a Volunteer or Villain. The answer was Mr. Poe. So he must be a volunteer or a villain.
There are also hints at the plot of Book the Twelfth, such as the excerpt from page 130, which has had some of the words scribbled out. It features a character who is a vice principal. This may or may not be Vice Principal Nero, from The Austere Academy, because the word just after "Vice Principal" has been crossed out. It also refers to two teachers who are accompanying the vice principal. These may or may not be Mr. Remora and Mrs. Bass from the same novel.
On the same page, there are some small hints at other developments in the story. We see one hint at the further development of Sunny, that she might be developing into a note-taker, or flâneur, a word which here means "an idle observer". Considering Violet and Klaus's developments in the last two books, this may develop into Sunny's usage of a commonplace book.
Two very slight hints are the pile of bags of money, and the recital, mentioned on the same page. This could mean that someone has stolen, or possibly acquired through legal means, a large amount of money. The bags may well be connected to Mrs. Bass (a teacher from the fifth book), who was arrested for bank robbery. There is also a slim chance that it is the Baudelaire fortune. The recital is likely to be a reference to Vice Principal Nero, who is very fond of giving violin recitals.
The completed triptych shows a woman kneeling on the ground near a large vase (with eyes on it) holding a power drill drilling a hole in the wall. There is also a top hat and a moustache on the floor that looks the same as the one being worn by the man in the third picture. The woman looks like she is in front of an elevator, possibly the same elevator that is shown in the third picture. In the second picture we see an eye, one vertical rope that is breaking and one vertical rope that is whole. The eye might be the woman looking through the hole at the frayed ropes (possibly caused by her drilling). In the third and final picture we see a mustached man dressed similarly to Mr. Poe using what looks like the number pad on an elevator. The moustache on the floor of the first picture indicates that the woman may be preparing a disguise. However, the first clue of September points out that, while there is a top hat in the V.F.D. disguise kit, there is no mustache. Nonetheless, the top hat in the picture looks very similar to the one worn by Mr. Poe. This could mean that Mr. Poe is in fact someone else in disguise. It could also foreshadow a key event in the book in which an elevator cord breaks, possibly leading to the unfortunate event of someone's - presumably, Mr. Poe's - life being taken what will happen if he dies. The August 28th clue also refers to the first public display of the elevator, during which one of the elevator cables is cut but the elevator does not fall down the shaft. This might suggest that Mr. Poe (or whoever is getting in the elevator) will NOT plunge to their doom and that they may in fact live. There is also what looks like the top of a top hat under the second row, second column picture on the cover. The vase in the triptych is also simliar to one shown in Uncle Monty's house in the movie.
The answers to Mystery the Second - Part Three, also may relate to the next book. The "GREAT FIRE OF LONDON" could refer to another fire that will take place in Book the Twelfth. "SORROWFUL SONGS" might refer to the music of Vice Principal Nero, and "triplets, as in poems" could refer to Duncan and Quigley Quagmire. This possibly implies that the Quagmire triplets get reunited during Book the Twelfth. "THE SISTER TOOK THEM" could refer to Kit Snicket taking the Baudelaires at the end of The Grim Grotto, meaning she could be charged with kidnapping or helping robbers, which would lead to an unfortunate event. This phrase could also be an answer to who 'took' various unattributed photographs, especially the ones of the Baudelaires. "THE SISTER TOOK THEM" could also refer to Mr. Poe's sister, about whom it was revealed she had been intercepting telegrams meant for Mr. Poe.
Contrary to popular belief, Mystery the Third will not reveal the title of Book the Twelfth. September 24th's puzzle shows that although the cover art, border, and credits will be revealed, there is not enough space on the image for the title to be shown as well.
According to September 23rd's entry, there is a hint on the link: http://www.kidzworld.com/site/book_shelf.htm There is a fake taxi ad on Kidsworld that says: "TERMINAL TAXI CO. Your trusted associate for emergency transportations HOTEL PICKUPS AND DROPOFFS As featured in The Theoretical Truth by Lemony Snicket". If you click on it, it returns to http://www.thenamelessnovel.com This has been speculated to be the title of Book the Twelfth; however, some fans believe that this is merely a red herring, and that the title would not be released in such an undramatic way and be so vague (the titles of Snicket's previous books are directly related to the plot of the book and are usually a location, although not always - for example, "The Bad Beginning", "The Ersatz Elevator").
The October 4 clue contains a pdf file of a MISSING poster, showing a Mr. Snicket, his face covered by an upside down manuscript. If you rotate the pic and zoom in, you will see Book The Twelfth - The Horrid Hotel http://www.lemonysnicket.com/missing.pdf. This title, however, has been crossed out.
The answer to mystery the third, part 11, might also feature a clue to the title of book the twelfth. The answer is “the counterfeit concierge is in” the phrase “the counterfeit concierge” seems like a very probable title for a number of reasons. It is specific as to what it refers to, a reason that has already been discussed with regards to why the theoretical truth may not be the new title. It is alliterative, and as the horrid hotel, uses one of the starting letters already used in a title of one of the books. This may show that the fact that though all previous books in the series started with different letters, that may have been coincidence rather than convention. Finally, if you look closely at the revealed cover of the book, you will see that at the desk by which the Baudelaires are standing, you can see some of a word, which spells “concier”. The phrase “the counterfeit concierge is in” could refer to a number of things.
You may also note there is a woman wearing a feathered hat who looks very much like the woman who was holding the power drill in the first segment of the triptych. The man standing second closest to the left edge of the cover appears to have smoke coming off his face. This man could be the proprieter of the Lucky Smells Lumbermill, which would also coincide with Mr. Snicket’s habit of teasing his readers by leaving the biggest twists for last, which would explain why his face has not been revealed yet. Also considering the patch of hair visible under his hat, and the top hat itself, this man my be Mr. Poe as well, or he may be the man seen looking through the hole in the wall in the second part of the triptych. Possibly it could be Count Olaf as the hat covers where his eyebrow would be.
Since the border around the cover art in all A Series Of Unfortunate Events books loosely explains what they are about, e.g., eyes in the Bad Beginning, waves in the Wide Window, snow gnats in the Slippery Slope, etc., and the border of the cover art of the twelfth book, as revealed in Mystery the Third, is fire, fire will likely be more crucial to the plot of Book the Twelfth than the previous eleven. Some may argue that the illustration looks equally like a rope, indicating there might be something to do with elevators. The triptych indicates quite a bit to do with elevators, and the Baudelaires are dressed as bellboys on the pieces of the cover that have been uncovered.
At the end of every book of the series, there is always a picture relating to the next book. For example, the picture at the end of the first book, The Bad Beginning, shows a snake with its tail twisted around the pole of a night lamp; the second book, The Reptile Room, was about the Baudelaires and their snake-keeper Uncle Monty. The picture at the end of the 11th book shows the Baudelaires on a beach with a taxi, Mr. Poe waving at them, and a hat that says Hotel Denouement on the sand.
According to the latest interview with Daniel Handler (aka. Lemony Snicket) has released the following hints on book the 12th on http://www.lemonysnicket.com/event/bookblast.html#daniel. In this interview Daniel Handler reveals "its inhospitable setting, its fraught picnics, its sunbathing spy, its perilous title, its tense spa, its complicated restauranteur, its many bells, its morally ambiguous arson, its arsonous moral ambiguity, its interrupted justice, or even the name of the person killed by the Baudelaires"
Zooming into the cover at the Baudelaires Hats shows small print "Hotel D" on Klaus' hat and "enouement" on Violet's hat. This confirms that they are, in fact, in the Hotel Denouement.
The October 10th clue leads to a faux ad on nick.com, containing the following ad copy: The Littlest Elf wants you to come along to The Remarkable Resort! COMING OCTOBER 18! Do you need a vacation from frownville? Then follow your favorite Elf to The Remarkable Resort, the twelfth book in “A Series of Silly Stories About The Littlest Elf" by Loney M. Setnick, coming October 18!
For those a bit slow on anagrams, Loney M. Setnick is an anagram for Lemony Snicket. Not sure if this means anything or if it just ties the fake ad even more to the Nameless Novel.
If you look at October the 16th's clue it shows a bunch of phrases Have the Initials V.F.D., but when you look closely "Verse Fluctuation Declaration" appears in both colum 2 and 3. and when you look above the words "Verse Fluctuation Declaration" in column 3 above it it says "The Dastardly Denouement", which doesn't have the initials V.F.D. So now, we can speculate that the next book will contain more Verse Fluctuation Declarations and that Hotel Denouement would be dastardly or it could be the title for Book the Twelfth. However, this could also be the title for Book the Thirteenth, as 'denouement' means 'conclusion' or 'finale.'
In the letter on the 17th October the editor tells us that we already know the title to book the twelfth so it must be one of the possible titles that has already been found or it could refer to the leak of the title of Book the Twelfth.
We can also speculate that his book is going to relate somehow to the Wide Window because the cover and a picture from that book are on the main page, and there are many clues relating to Lake Lachrymose. But it can also relate to The Ersatz Elevator due to the Nameless Novel's on going referances to elevators.
There is also one more thing that might be a bit hard to notice. The woman wearing the hat and the fur coat on the cover of the twelfth book has a small eye on the feather of her hat. Who do you think she might be?
It might be Esme because of the extravagant clothes she is wearing, and she looks a little bit alike to the other drawings about her, but the question here should be, who is the man who is smoking the cigarrete? Again, could it be Count Olaf in a very fine disguise? It is possibly, the hook handed man, because his picture on one of the sides of the box of unfortunate events (books 1-6) has a remarkably similar face. Daniel Handler has now released the name of the 12th book an hour ago. It is now "The Penuntimate Peril". Because of suspicion around Handler, he was forced to reveal the title immediately. The Penultimate Peril will be in stores on Oct.18.
