Castlepoint is a small beachside town on the Wairarapa coast of the Wellington region of New Zealand. It is home to, among other things, Castle Rock (a large hill made of rock), a lighthouse, and some large sand dunes. Castlepoint is situated about one hour's drive east of Masterton township and is in the Masterton District. The population of Castlepoint and its surrounds was 1,686 as recorded in the national Census of 2006.It was found in 925 AD by a man named kupe while he was trying to catch a giant octopus. it was later named castlepoint by Captain Cook .

The Castle Point Lighthouse, one of the last manned lights built in New Zealand, was completed on the 12th January 1913 and fully automated in 1988[1]. It is a popular tourist attraction for holidaymakers to the area, although it is not open to the public.
