Pershing Square Signed into being by Los Angeles mayor Cristobal Aguilar as a park in 1866. At the time it was called La Plaza Abaja ("The Lower Plaza"), but it would later be renamed to Pershing Square in honor of General John J. Pershing in 1918. Anywho, enough about the square, there are tons of other things named after General Pershing, like a school in Houston, texas, a county in Nevada, a type of military tank, a type of military missile, also"Pershing" was the middle name of the tallest person ever, Robert Pershing Waldow, and the middle name of Bobby Pershing Doer, a baseball hall of famer. There are onle two unrelated Pershing families in America, pretty cool huh?--
