Banco Bradesco S.A (branded as Bradesco) is one of the Big Four banks in Brazil, the others being Banco do Brasil, Itaú Unibanco and Santander Brasil. Bradesco was the largest private bank in Brazil until Banco Itaú and Unibanco merged in 2009. Bradesco is headquartered in Osasco and have 5,951[1] branches. Bradesco offers Internet banking, insurance, pension plans, annuities,credit card services (including football club affinity cards for soccer fans) for customers, and savings bonds. The bank also provides personal and commercial loans, as well as leasing services. Internationally, Bradesco has branches in New York, Grand Cayman and Nassau, and banking or financial subsidiaries or affiliates in Nassau, Luxembourg, Buenos Aires, Grand Cayman and Tokyo.

Banco Bradesco is constantly expanding and has recently acquired Banco do Estado do Maranhão, Banco Mercantil de São Paulo, Banco Ibi S.A., and the Brazilian operations of Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA), J.P. Morgan Fleming Asset Management and American Express.

Bradesco's stock is traded on BM&F Bovespa, where it is part of the Índice Bovespa. It is also listed on the New York Stock Exchange and Madrid Stock Exchange.

History

  • March 10, 1943: Banco Brasileiro de Descontos founded by Amador Aguiar[2] in the city of Marília in the state of São Paulo. The bank target small landowners, retailers, and government employees.
  • 1946: Bradesco moved its headquarters to São Paulo.
  • 1951: Bradesco grows to become the largest private bank in Brazil.
  • 1956: Amador Aguiar create Fundação Bradesco, the biggest education program in Brazil.
  • 1962: Bradesco is the first Latin American company to buy a computer.
  • 1968: Bradesco launched the first credit card in Brazil.
  • 1970s: Bradesco acquires 17 banks throughout the country.
  • 1978: The Bradesco branch no. 1000 is inaugurate in Chuí in Brazil extreme south.
  • 1991: Amador Aguiar died in São Paulo.
  • 1996: Bradesco launched the first Latin American Internet Banking system.
  • 1997: Bradesco buys Banco BCN.[3]
  • 2000: Banco Bradesco Argentina commences operations in Buenos Aires. Bradesco Securities commences operations in New York.
  • 2003: Bradesco buys BBVA's Brazilian subsidiary.
  • 2006: Bradesco buys American Express Brazilian subsidiary.
