David Willey is currently the BBC's Correspondent in Rome and has held this post since 1971.
He is a graduate of the University of Cambridge, where he read law and modern languages.
His first post in Rome was as a trainee with Reuters; this was followed by a period in Algeria, where he worked as a freelance reporter after that country's independence from France in 1962. In 1964, he became the BBC's correspondent in East Africa. [1]
