Brenda Barratt

Brenda Barratt (born 1946, Woodford Green) is an English watercolour painter, particularly of architecture.

Coming from an artistic family Brenda has been painting all her life, and works from her studios in Buxted, East Sussex. Her father, Chris Rooke was commissioned to paint watercolors of important buildings thought likely not to survive WWII. One of his paintings is in the custody of the Victoria and Albert Museum.^[1]

Brenda specializes in painting house portraits, particularly public schools and colleges. She gets commissioned to capture the essence of various schools and colleges in England and to make limited edition prints available to the parents and pupils, and donate the original to the school. Collectors from around the world have bought Brenda's architectural watercolors of colleges, schools and dwellings. Her house portraits are locally renowned.^[2]

Brenda's painting in outer space

In May of 2010 NASA astronaut Piers Sellers is taking an original watercolor portrait painted by Brenda Barratt into outer space aboard the Space Shuttle. Piers Sellers was a pupil at Cranbrook School, in Kent and Barratt was recently asked by Angela Daly, the school's headteacher to paint a watercolor of the school. The painting will then be returned to Cranbrook School with the official NASA verification that it has traveled into space.^[3]
