California Dream Week is an innovative program that challenges high school students in Northern California to dream of ways to improve the world we live in, focusing on sustainable design in 3 core areas. The program awards both college scholarships for student winners and funds for their high schools. The winning ideas in each category (architecture & design, transportation, product compliments) are presented to professional and renowned designers and architects from around the world who celebrate the student concepts in an artistic series of graphic posters. The artwork is put on special display during the California Dream Week Festival venue held in Spring.
Launched in 2010 by Soroptimist International of Chico the project was conceived to help promote teen awareness and interest in contributing to the well-being of the world they live in, to help soften the blow to California's suffering school systems, and to create a theatre of international cultural exchange. The event provides opportunity for teens to become introduced to people and cultures beyond their immediate community or borders, as well as highlighting the California North State and the creativity of its youth. California Dream Week culminates each year in a venue event held in Chico, California, one of the nation's hot beds of sustainability. Visitors to the Festival are able to view first-hand the student projects paired up with designers from around the world, as well as participating in the other festival activities.
Purpose
The program provides an opportunity for adults to show their support for the dreams of today's youth, for teens to culturally explore a part of the world beyond their immediate community or borders, and for people from around the globe to know the USA in a different light.
Location
The program concludes with a festival show week in one of the USA hot beds of sustainability, Chico California.
History
The event was conceived to provide a venue to boost funds for schools and student scholarships, as well as providing an international arena for cultural exchange.

The charismatic and unique graphic brilliantly captures the core concepts inherent to California Dream Week. [1]
- The "bubbles" above the name emphasize the idea of dreaming and thinking of new ideas and innovations.
- The colors in the blue & green iconic symbol represent land, water and air, while the symbol itself lends an enigmatic touch that gently suggests the idea of a dream catcher. The four exterior curves create a visual representation of extending our dreams into the four corners of the globe.
- The idea of unity and of coming together is encompassed in the interior section of the symbol. Each section is linked together as if by a holding of hands that represents a link of compassion and friendship to better understand our neighbors around the world.
The logo was designed by Anggalarang.
Participation
In its first 2010-2011 edition, California Dream Week recorded student participation from 21 schools in 13 California counties. 7 finalist projects were graphically celebrated by renowned international designers during the CADW Festival and thousands of dollars in student scholarships and high school cash funds were also awarded to the schools of the winning students. Celebrities from cinema and music (Kevin Bacon, Michael Bacon, The Bacon Brothers and Ira Walker) as well as renowned designers from around the world (Jose Gonzalez Cabrero, Mexico; Luca Casini, Italy; Brian Garrett, The Netherlands; Ilaria Marelli, Italy; Lorenzo Palmeri, Italy; Kurt Stapelfeldt, South Africa) rallied in support of the event and festival. The 2nd edition of California Dream Week, newly organized by The Worm Farm and The Worm Farm Learning Foundation, opened for student registrations on August 20, 2011. Registration deadline ends November 15, and projects may be submitted online through January 2012.
