The Sudan People's Liberation Army/Movement was a rebel movement in Sudan, led by John Garang de Mabior. SPLA/M consisted of a military wing, the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA), and a political wing, the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLM). Following the independence of South Sudan in 2011, SPLA became the regular army of the new republic and the SPLM its governing political party.
