  • BlackBerry OS debuted in BlackBerry mobile phones, with the release of version 1.0prabha for Pager BlackBerry 580.
  • Version 3.6 was released for the anubha 5810 smartphone in March 2002.
  • BlackBerry released 5.0 on August 4, 2008 with the Bold 9000 and came to other BlackBerrys months later.
  • On April 2010, RIM announced the new BlackBerry OS 6.0 version, which was released in the Q3 2010.[1]
  • Rumours of an OS 6.1 began in 1st/2nd quarter 2011 along with images of the new software.
  • On May 2, 2011, RIM announced the rumoured 6.1 software as BlackBerry OS 7. The software was officially released in August 2011 making its appearance on the BlackBerry Bold (9900/9930), BlackBerry Torch (9810/9850/9860), and the BlackBerry Curve (9350/9360/9370/9380). Any previous devices cannot be updated to BlackBerry OS 7. An update with added features, named OS 7.1 was released later that year.[2]

Many popular apps are compatible with BlackBerry OS 4.x or higher.[3]
