Aerodrome, Inc. is an American design studio that has branded many television channels and companies around the world. The company was originally formed in 1979 by R. Scott Miller and John Ridgeway to "improve television".
Over the next three decades, the studio produced graphics for many channels, including RTL Television, HBO Family, Fox Broadcasting Company, Sci-Fi Channel among others. The studio also produced several film & show titles. In the late-2000s, the company lacked popularity, but continued to grow.
History
R. Scott Miller and John Ridgeway[disambiguation needed] wanted to "improve television", but they found no way to. In 1979, they created 1351 Productions, a studio doing work for television (excluding TV shows). In 1981, they created the intro for the syndicated TV show Entertainment Tonight and received some popularity. The next year, they were hired to design another opening for Entertainment Tonight, plus a promo package for the Cable Health Network. Over the mid-80s, the studio started working on graphics for WXYZ-TV, KCET, and KOIN-TV.
R. Scott Miller quit working at the studio, leaving John Ridgeway on his own. R. Scott Miller set up Scott Miller Associates in 1985 and designed the original graphics for the Discovery Channel and Turner Network Television. Meanwhile, 1351 Productions kept working on graphics and show titles, plus film titles, starting with Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
In 1992, as Scott Miller Associates was working on the network identity for Sci-Fi Channel, it merged with 1351 Productions, becoming two separate companies; Aerodrome-Novocom. By now, they were doing logo animations for Paramount Television, 20th Century Fox, and E! Originals.
In 1995, Aerodrome-Novocom split into two companies. Also, Novocom and Aerodrome hired more people to work at the studio. The companies began winning more awards at this time. In the late-2000s, the companies lacked popularity, but afterward, they continued to grow slowly. In 2006, they were acquired by Via Worldwide, until it became absorbed into WWP plc.
