Lo Que La Vida Me Robó (International Title: What Life Stole from Me) is a Mexican telenovela produced by Angelli Nesma Medina for Televisa. It is a remake of Bodas de odio, produced by Ernesto Alonso in 1983. In 2003, Amor Real, the first remake, was produced by Carla Estrada. Unlike Bodas de odio and Amor Real, Lo Que La Vida Me Robó has been adapted to the present time.[2]

It's started by Angelique Boyer, Sebastián Rulli and Luis Roberto Guzman,[3] with Daniela Castro as the antagonistic protagonist, while Lisset, Grettel Valdez, Sergio Sendel and Francisco Gattorno star as the main antagonists. On August 19, the second remake was officially named as Lo Que La Vida Me Robó.[4]

As of October 28, 2013, Canal de las Estrellas is broadcasting Lo Que La Vida Me Robó weeknights at 9:30pm, replacing La tempestad.[5][6] Production of Lo Que La Vida Me Robó officially started on September 2, 2013.[7]

On October 19, 2013, Univision announced a November prime-time broadcast of Lo Que La Vida Me Robó.[8] On October 27, Univision confirmed a November 18 broadcast, and is currently broadcast weekdays at 9pm/8c, replacing La tempestad.[9][10] From December 23, 2013 to January 3, 2014, Univision started broadcasting 2 hours of Lo que la vida me robó, taking over Mentir para vivir's former time slot. Univision will broadcast Qué Pobres Tan Ricos on January 6 weeknights at 10pm/9c, replacing one hour of Lo que la vida me robó.[11]

Plot

Monserrat is an attractive young woman with a good social status who lives in a bed of roses. However, she is constantly under Graciela´s control, her mother, who is only interested in appearances and won´t let her social status to change no matter what, and despite her husband Lauro Mendoza has lost everything he had.

Behind her parents´ back, Monserrat holds a relationship with Jose Luis, a navy Corporal, and she is not planning to marry Sebastian de Icaza, the man her mother practically imposed to her at her own convenience.

On the other hand, José Luis knows that Monserrat´s family will never accept him because he doesn´t have a promising future he could offer to Monserrat. At the same time, Alejandro, a workman from a near ranch, finds out that his father is Don Benjamín Almonte, a cruel, powerful and wealthy man, who dies minutes after revealing his son the truth.

Alejandro is not happy to receive this news but, that night, life compensates for him by getting to meet Monserrat, of whom he immediately falls in love. Monserrat ends her engagement with Sebastián and Graciela gets really angry about this since she had seen in that marriage the only way to solve their financial problems.

Because of this, Graciela starts seeking another prospect for her daughter, and it is then that she hears Alejandro is Don Benjamín´s heir, which makes him the perfect candidate for Monserrat. In her desperation, and feeling that she is about to get poor, Graciela asks Alejandro for financial help; he accepts to support the Mendoza family only if Graciela allows him to court her daughter. Graciela doesn´t hesitate and she accepts the proposal right away, promising Alejandro that Monserrat will never know about this.

Graciela and Dimitrio, Monserrat´s brother, discover that she is having a relationship with a simple corporal and they embark on the task of separating them just to avoid putting into a risk the romance that could arise between Monserrat and Alejandro. It doesn´t take much time for them to achieve their goal and they make Monserrat change her image of Jose Luis when the authorities blame him for a crime he didn´t commit.

The situation complicates when Graciela realizes that Monserrat is not planning to get involved with Alejandro, and this is why she is compelled to tell her daughter the truth about their financial situation. So, despite her principles and knowing that this is the only way to help her family and prevent them from going bankrupt, Monserrat accepts to marry Alejandro.

Just when she has accepted him, Jose Luis reappears to tell her the truth and explain what really happened, assuring that he really loves her. But it is too late now, she already became Alejandro Almonte´s wife. Against her will, Monserrat moves to Alejandro´s ranch. Their marriage is a living hell at the beginning since they don´t trust each other, but little by little, Monserrat’s feelings towards Alejandro start to change. Running away from justice, Jose Luis arrives in Alejandro´s ranch to work as the foreman, taking over someone else´s personality.

A good friendship immediately grows between them since they both share the same values. This situation makes Monserrat really uncomfortable, and she won´t dare to tell her husband the truth about his new employee since she is afraid Alejandro might leave her now that she has fallen in love with him.

Monserrat, Alejandro and José Luis must carry off a series of obstacles destiny will put in front of them, all these in order to recover what life took from them in the past: love and the opportunity to be happy. Monserrat will have to make a final decision, having her heart as her only adviser.

Cast of characters:

Daniela Castro is Graciela Giacinti de Mendoza Bad guy. Hypocrite, she appears a devoted woman devoted to her Catholicism but is actually a dark creature full of ambition and greed. She loves to be surrounded by luxury and is proud to be part of an important family. But she has a secret! Long ago she was the lover of Benjamín Almonte. Now, for money she is capable of selling her own daughter to his bastard son and heir.

Angelique Boyer is Montserrat Mendoza

Good guy. Noble, capable of sacrificing herself for her family. Fragile and innocent, she's been in a convent. To her own surprise, little by little she falls truly in love with her husband, which will be a problem when she falls for José Luis. All her problems will strengthen her character.

Sebastián Rulli is Alejandro Almonte

Good guy. Loyal and fair, a gentleman who treats people with respect. His mother, a humble farm worker, died when he was a lad. His life changes when his boss confesses to being his father and leaves him a pot of dough. He becomes a powerful man. He meets Montserrat and falls hopelessly in love with her.

Luis Roberto Guzmán is José Luis Álvarez

Good guy. From a poor background but honorable and a good worker. Capable of anything when it comes to love. Montserrat is the love of his life. When he finds out she is forced to marry a man she despises while he is in jail (unjustly) [spoilers]. He realizes, sadly, that the love Montserrat has for him has changed and that Alejandro, her husband, is a good man.

Sergio Sendel is Pedro Medina

Bad guy, of course. Arrogant and egotistical, of course. [Will he throw phones?] He married Nadia for political reasons: he needed a wife of perfect reputation and a good name when he ran for municipal president. He's dedicated to persecuting Alejandro.

Rogelio Guerra is Lauro Mendoza

Good guy. Retired husband of Marina, he seems strong but deep down is weak. He and Graciela had two children: Montserrat and Dimitrio. His heart troubles, exacerbated by losing all his riches, have diminished him before his dominating wife.
