Wade's Causeway

Wade's Causeway was a Roman road in England. Its route ran from Dunsley Bay via Cawthorne to Malton in Yorkshire. From Malton, roads seem to have run via Stamford Bridge to York and via Millington and Londesborough to Market Weighton. Another route appears to have led from Stamford Bridge to Fridaythorpe and on to the Yorkshire coast.

The origins of the road's name are uncertain but may derive from the god Woden. An old Yorkshire legend also held that the road was made by the giant, Wadda, to help his wife cross the moors to milk her cows.
