Personally, I think it still needs improvement in both neutrality and verifiability. Ideally, every claim should be supported by an outside source. It still sounds like it is coming from a person with an opinion, even if the person is being pretty fair. NickelShoe (Talk) 05:33, 31 May 2006 (UTC)
I have a similar username
I just registered with Wikipedia. I picked a character from Beowulf as my username. However, I was not aware of your name at the time. I hope people don't misread my name as yours—I would hate for any bad reputation I develop to rub off on you. Hroðulf is normally spelled Hrothulf (not Hrodulf) in English, and I am using that in my sig. Please think about anything else you would like me to do to differentiate us. You can reply to me here. --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 13:47, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- [[User:Hrodulf/disambuigation]] and [[User:Hroðulf/disambuigation]] pages are the only workable solution I can conceive of. You're free to put one on your userpage as a sub-page if you like. I'll do likewise. Hope that helps. --Hrodulf 03:05, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- Done. User:Hrodulf/disambuigation and User:Hroðulf/disambuigation are working. I also linked from my Talk page. The other workable solution was to ask me to register with a new username. Thanks for not doing that (it is ok to change your mind later.) Are you a Beowulf fan? --Hroðulf (or Hrothulf) (Talk) 06:59, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
- I saw Ben Bagby perform the first third of it on reconstructed medieval harp and in the original language recently, so I suppose I am. My favorite part is when Beowulf taunts Unferth for killing his brother, in response to Unferth's mocking Beowulf for losing a swimming race to Breca, which Beowulf went on to claim he won, towing Breca back under his arm. But you know this already.
- Then later on, when Unferth sees Grendel's arm that Beowulf ripped off, the text notes that
- "More silent seemed the son of Ecglaf {Unferrh}
- in boastful speech of his battle-deeds,
- since athelings all, through the earl’s great prowess,
- beheld that hand, on the high roof gazing,
- foeman’s fingers, -- the forepart of each
- of the sturdy nails to steel was likest, --
- heathen’s “hand-spear,” hostile warrior’s
- claw uncanny."
- Then later on, when Unferth sees Grendel's arm that Beowulf ripped off, the text notes that
- So in other words, when Unferth saw that Beowulf had torn Grendel's arm off, that shut his taunting up. Guess it's sort of hard to compete with that. When Ben Bagby performed these passages, they seemed really funny. I'm going to get the dvd, since it's cool to see the story come to life; unfortunately he's probably not going to do the whole thing which would be a huge undertaking and take five+ hours to perform.
- I didn't choose the name because of Beowulf; I chose it because my real name is Rudolf and I read online it was a more archaic form of my real name. The Beowulf connection is just a coincidence.
- And I never considered asking you to use a different username, since the names are different, true only by one letter, but the disambiguation idea works well enough for this purpose.
