The Africa Channel is a TV channel that showcases travel, lifestyle and cultural series, specials and documentaries, 24/7. Its goal is to open a door into the modern lives of all people of African descent who live in the U.S., on the continent of Africa and around the world.

The Africa Channel is a showcase for the African continent’s most outstanding English language television series, specials, documentaries, feature films, music, soaps, biographies, current business analysis, cultural and historical programs. These programs reflect the people of Africa, their incredible stories, their daily lives, their music and art, their successes, celebrations and challenges. [1]

History

The Africa Channel premiered on September 1, 2005. [citation needed]

The Africa Channel is broadcast in the United States through Comcast, Time Warner Cable, COX Communications and also available in Jamaica, the Bahamas, Trinidad & Tobago, St. Lucia, Barbados, Bermuda, Grenada and other islands throughout the Caribbean. [citation needed]

The channel launched in high definition on August 1, 2010.[2]

The Africa Channel is an associate member of the Caribbean Cable Cooperative[3] and is distinct from the international version of The Africa Channel which launched in September 2007.[4]
