Fred Perpall
Fred Perpall (born 1974) is the CEO of The Beck Group, a company that provides architecture, construction, real estate development and technology and sustainability consulting. He became CEO in 2013, succeeding Henry C. Beck III.
Early life, family, and education
Perpall was born in Nassau, Bahamas on October 31, 1974. His father was an avionics and communications engineer and his mother owned a school cafeteria business. Perpall is the youngest of four children. At 12 years old, he began helping his uncle’s small subcontracting construction company. This sparked his interest in architecture.
He earned a two year degree in architecture from the College of the Bahamas at the age of 17. He later moved to Texas and earned a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a Master of Architecture at the University of Texas at Arlington. A top graduate when receiving his Masters, Perpall also earned the AIA Medal of Honor. He is an alumnus of the 183rd class of Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program and is a former Americas Fellow at The Baker Institute at Rice University.
A native of Nassau, Bahamas, Perpall played on the 1994 Bahamian National Basketball Team. He currently resides in Dallas with his wife, Abi, and their two daughters.
Career
Perpall began his career in the design and construction industry in 1996. In 1998, he joined the Urban Architecture firm and a year later the firm merged with Beck. Perpall was sent to the Beck’s Atlanta office in 2004 to establish its design practice. By 2009, he was the managing director of the organization’s eastern division. In January of 2013, Henry C. Beck III appointed Perpall as the CEO of Beck.
Leadership Style
Perpall’s unique upbringing in the Bahamas has shaped him as a leader. He serves as a mentor to the next generation within Beck, Project Success, and young emerging professionals in the industry. He embraces one on one meetings with colleagues and speaking to large groups. Perpall has given commencement speeches for the University of Texas at Arlington and Tyler Street Christian Academy.
