Ataul Hakim Sarwar Hasan (Template:Lang-bn; born January 1, 1966) is a serving Lieutenant General of Bangladesh Army. He is the current Chief of the General Staff (CGS),[1][2] Army Headquarters, Dhaka Cantonment. He last served as Commandant, National Defence College (Bangladesh) (Commandant, NDC), Mirpur Cantonment.[3][4][5][6][7][8] Lieutenant General Hasan was Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP),[9][10][11][12]. Previously, he was the Area Commander, Logistics Area, Dhaka.[13][14]

Early life and education

In 1972 when Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman visited the War Heroes and war children Rehabilitation Center (বীরাঙ্গনা ও যুদ্ধ শিশু পুনর্বাসন কেন্দ্র). Hasan's Mother Late Hasina Khatun was the Director of the Rehabilitation Center. He had the honour to meet with the Father of The Nation. (Hasan in Red Circle)

Hasan was born in Bangshal, Old Dhaka and grew up in Tejkunipara , Farmgate. He is the youngest of the four sons of Late Abdul Hakim and Late Hasina Khatun.

He did his Secondary and Higher Secondary Education from University Laboratory School and Dhaka College in 1980 and 1982 respectively. He holds a PhD degree on security studies from Jahangirnagar University. He obtained three master’s degrees in Defence Studies (National University), War Studies and Security Studies ,Bangladesh University of Professionals. He is a graduate of Defence Services Command and Staff College , Staff College of Brazil and completed Portuguese Language Course from Language Institute of Rio-de-Janeiro, Brazil. He completed Armed Forces War Course in 2004 and National Defence Course in 2013.

Military career

Hasan was commissioned in the Corps of Infantry on 21st December 1984.He has command experience at various echelons in the Army that include commanding Officer of an infantry battalion, Commander of two infantry brigades.

He was founding General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 10 Infantry Division at Ramu, Cox’s Bazar. As GOC he also commanded Logistics Area, Dhaka Cantonment and 55 Infantry Division, Jashore Area. He finally served as Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Professionals as Major General.[15] [16]

He served as staff officer at Army Headquarters, also worked as ‘Strategic Planner’ in the Combined Planning Group (CPG) of United States Central Command Headquarters (USCENTCOM) , Tampa, USA. He has the experience as Colonel Staff of an Infantry Division. Been in the service of as the Director of Counter Terrorism and Intelligence Bureau of Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI). Served as the Director General Operations and Plan at Armed Forces Division. He has to his credit the experience of serving as Instructor at the Tactics Wing of School of Infantry and Tactics. He was Directing Staff at the Defence Services Command and Staff College; Commandant of Bangladesh Infantry Regimental Centre.

Wearing Blue beret, He served as Senior Operations Officer in the United Nations Guards Contingent in Iraq (UNGCI). Participated in “Counter Terrorism Cooperation and International Conference” in United Kingdom and Australia in 2011; ICRC Seminar in Bhutan in 2012; and Regional Conference on Chemical Weapon Convention in Nepal in 2012. He also participated in the Exercise Eagle Determination/Resolve 2015 in Kuwait. He attended The Land Forces Pacific (LANPAC) Symposium in Hawaii, USA in 2017.

Personal life

Hasan is married to Begum Farzana Hasan,[17][18] Senior Teacher of Shaheed Bir Uttam Lt. Anwar Girls' College,[19] and father of two sons.

Lieutenant General Ataul Hakim Sarwar Hasan has become the new President of Bangladesh Shooting Sport Federation from September 20, 2020.[20][21][22]
